Sunday, January 16 is observed as the Sunday prior to the observance of the federal holiday commemorating the life and legacy of Martin Luther King. We continue to struggle with the question, "Where Do We Go From Here?," which was the last book Dr. King wrote. We can either make choices to create more chaos or we can make choices to choose to become the beloved community. A litany will be shared in the radio broadcast about Martin King’s life and legacy.
Monday, January 17 is the National Observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a federal day.

"Time is that ever-elusive entity that we use to measure what we cannot see, as we chronicle the experiences that describe what we eventually are to be. The ever-rolling movement, the constant flow of motion, causes all we know about existence to fit into this notion. For everything that happens, we can fit into a space, putting each occurrence into its special place. With labels we denote how we understand, this ever-elusive reality that stays so close at hand. So we say with bated breath, it was a good time or a time not so good, trying as best we can to make some sense of what cannot always be understood. Each moment carries with it a flavor all its own, capturing our existence with everything that is shown. Sometimes we live as though we have an unlimited supply, only to discover we have deceived ourselves with such a lie. And since it comes so quickly and leaves equally as fast, we are forced to face the fact that nothing seems to last. Given the nature of things, the least that we can do is treasure as precious the allotment of time available to you. Once is all you get to live without regret, so make the most of the time you have and your life will be better yet." (WSE)

"The local chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta Sororities, Inc. are presenting the 37th Annual Commemorative Martin Luther King Concert -- our Second Virtual program, celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929 - 1968). We will feature our Celebration Choir, wonderfully talented visiting artists (Perry Hayes and Dr. Diane White-Clayton), and several emerging young artists. The spirit of the concert helps us rededicate ourselves to the ministry of Dr. King ... to his mission … to his dream! We Shall Overcome."

Join Christian Women on the Move and the American Baptist Women’s Ministries in observing National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month in January 2022.
"California remains one of the nation's top four destination states for human trafficking, believed to be a $180 billion a year global industry. Three of the 10 worst child sex trafficking areas in the United States are in California: San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Victims in California are domestic servants, child laborers, sex slaves, and forced laborers of all ages. The sale of human beings is the third-largest illicit trade following drugs and weapons but is growing faster than both criminal activities. An estimated 50% of the victims are children and 80% are women."

The University of Michigan Future Public Health Leaders Program (Michigan FPHLP) is a residential summer program funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Through field placements, skill-building workshops, and mentorship, Michigan FPHLP provides students with opportunities for growth, learning, and awareness in the field of public health. The ultimate goal of the program is to increase the diversity of the public health workforce and the people committed to reducing health disparities.
Michigan FPHLP students will be housed on the University of Michigan's campus for 10 weeks to dive deep into the field of public health. Students will participate in curriculum days at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and engage with public health professionals through their field placements.
The application for Michigan FPHLP 2022 is currently open and will close January 31, 2022, at 11:59 PM EST.

The Wade Scholarship Program (WSP) was established to provide full scholarships -- tuition, fees and more -- for Black students pursuing master's degrees in STEM fields. The goal is to help students focus on their studies, not the immediate costs of their graduate programs or eventual incurred debt.
