March 6, 2022
March, the third month of the year, brings with it some special occasions. On March 2 is Ash Wednesday which signals the beginning of Lent. Lent is the forty-day period prior to Easter, which is used by believers in Christ to prepare for their reflection on the life of Christ, especially Jesus’ last week on earth which culminates with his Crucifixion, Burial and Resurrection as they more fully embrace the implication of what Christ had done to bring them life and life more abundantly.
The second event is Daylight Saving Time which begins on Sunday, March 13 at 2:00 am in the morning. Remember to reset your clocks when you go to bed on Saturday, March 12. Spring forward is the way we are told to remember that we lose an hour.
The third event is spring. The seasons are determined by changing sunlight (not heat) which is determined by how our planet orbits the sun and the tilt of its axis. At the start of spring – the spring equinox – the day and night are approximately 12 hours long and the sun is at the midpoint of the sky. Our north pole tilts towards the sun. Sunday, March 20 is the first day of spring.
All of the events in March, Ash Wednesday, daylight saving time, and spring have symbolism that captures images that ignite our imagination about our possibilities. Lent is a reminder that life requires commitment, discipline, faithfulness and sacrifice. The life of Christ Jesus is the epitome of those attributes, characteristics, and qualities. Lent challenges us to realign our allegiances, renew our commitments and reorder our priorities by redirecting our focus. When we consider the life of Christ, we recognized our need for repentance, redemption, and renewal.
Daylight saving time reminds us that light comes as gift. We set clocks to register how we measure the time allotted for each day. However, it is the gift of light that determines that there is a day at all. Daylight reminds us to be grateful for each day as a gift that is given by God to each of us.
Then there is spring which carries with it a special ring. Spring emerges from winter bringing with it the possibilities of new life bubbling and brimming and bustling with new existence. Spring is a reminder that life always begins anew. There is always the possibility to pick up and start again.
Lent is a time to realign our appetites, reconsider our ambitions and reorder our allegiances.
Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in the month of March in the United States since 1987. Women’s History month 2022 will take place from Tuesday, March 1 through Thursday March 31, 2022.
A specially called church meeting has been scheduled for Sunday, March 20, 2022 at noon to give an update of the structural damage repair and Henderson Community Center.
We are moving forward in faith, hope and love to fulfill the purpose for which God has us in this place. We are on our way to inherit the promises of God.
With every good wish,
-Pastor Epps

Welcome to Women’s History Month 2022! The month is set aside to celebrate the accomplishments of women and encourage the study and observance of the vital role of women in American history. However, as is the case for Black History Month, we do not celebrate women for only a month. We celebrate women all year long! Explore the Library of Congress’s guide for online programming, including essays written by women, historic and contemporary videos, pictures, government documents, etc. at https://guides.loc.gov/american-women.
We also celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8. The theme is #BreakTheBias – a gender-equal world; free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination – where our differences are valued and celebrated! Show your support on March 8th by wearing the campaign colors: purple, green, and white to represent justice, dignity, hope, and purity.
CWOM thanks everyone that came out and participated in the Noonday Prayer and Worship held on February 26. It was a beautiful day, filled with music, prayer, and fellowship.
Lastly, CWOM is working with the Sheriff's Department to provide personal hygiene kits for females being released from the correctional center. We are delivering our first donations on March 21, with quarterly donations to follow (June, September, and December). CWOM is providing 100 personal hygiene kits (if not more) each quarter consisting of the following items: a comb and brush, toothpaste and toothbrush, mouthwash, footsie socks (3 pairs), deodorant, hand sanitizer (2), lotion, soap, Kleenex packs and sanitary napkins (5). Ladies, we need five (5) bags from each of you! Hebrews 13:3 tells us: "Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated, as if you yourselves were suffering." All donations are welcomed and will be used. You may drop your bags on any Monday or Wednesday, 10 AM – 12 PM tthrough March 16. Volunteers needed to assist in organizing the donated items on March 18. Email valerie_mcdonald@yahoo.com or text to (310) 200-1772 with any questions. Thank you for your continued support.

FROM THE ARCHIVES...
The theme for 2022 – Providing Healing, Promoting Hope –- is both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history. Women's History Month is a celebration of women's contributions to history, culture and society and has been observed annually in March in the United States since 1987. Please join the SBC Memorial and Historical Commission as we celebrate WEEKLY, women that have made history in California and reflect on their courage, their efforts and bravery, that have afforded women the opportunities and freedom they have today. Our first Women’s History Month woman is BIDDY MASON…
