TODAY is the 136th Anniversary of this congregation of believers in Christ. We have maintained an uninterrupted presence in the Los Angeles community since 1885 and 95 years at our current location. Our legacy continues with the commitment, faith, and love with which we began. We say with the psalmist, "This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:23-24
|
Tune into KJLH 102.3 FM at 12:30 PM TODAY as Pastor Epps will be talking about the church's 136 anniversary with KJLH and Spread the Word's Aundrae Russell.
|
This Sunday's Zoom chat will be a celebration of the congregation's 136-year anniversary. Join us to reflect and share your stories with the Pastor at 1:00 PM.

SBC Altar Guild
"The Second Baptist Church Altar Guild Ministry is grateful for the privilege to serve our congregation during these last months of challenges while we have been away from that sanctuary we love and that altar we hold dear to our hearts. We continue to serve by reaching out to our membership, by ordering flowers for the sick and shut-in, our grieving families, and supporting bereaved families by providing funeral flowers. Please know we are available if you need our assistance, we are just a phone call away."

Member Judith Jones' grandfather, Julian Fisher, was on the cover of the Spring 2021 edition of Monrovia Today (riding on the horse in the foreground). He was an important figure in the history of the City of Monrovia, having been the city's first African-American police officer.
"Another important figure in the history of the police department is Julian Fisher, Monrovia's first African American police officer. Julian grew up in Monrovia, and as a young boy he often worked with his father, who was a blacksmith for Lucky Baldwin. Julian was educated in the Monrovia schools and was the first African American male to graduate from Monrovia High School. He also played as a semi-professional baseball player for the Monrovia Merchants. Julian was a respected member of the police department and the community. He served in the department for many years and retired in the early seventies as a police sergeant. Julian passed away in December of 1976. Julian Fisher Park, located at Almond and California Avenues, is named in his honor."
