May 21, 2023

Sunday, May 21st is the 138th Church Anniversary of this congregation of believers in Christ. We have maintained an uninterrupted presence in the Los Angeles community since 1885 and 97 years at our current location. Our legacy continues with the commitment, faith and love with which we began. We say with the psalmist, "This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it," Psalm 118:23-24. We rejoice and praise the Lord for 138 years of continuous witnessing to the reality of the Presence of the Lord in our lives as a fellowship of faith.

Sunday, May 28th is observed as Memorial Sunday. We acknowledge the observance of Memorial Sunday and the sacrifices that have been made by those serving in the armed forces of the United States, past and present, as well as our members whose contributions to the church are remembered.

We are on our way to inherit the promises of God. Come with us and you will share in all the good things the Lord will do for us. The best is yet to come.

Congratulations
Dr. J. Michelle Woods!
“Caritas cum scientia” - Heart with science. As our school motto, heart is essential to medicine and science, and in similar fashion, as our school’s beloved leader for almost two decades, Dr. J. Michelle Rainey Woods led King/Drew Magnet High School “Caritas cum dux” – Heart with leadership.
"For 17 years, Dr. Woods built relationships with her staff and students from a deep sense of understanding and compassion that forged a sense of community that was “family,” unique in the district and as essential to King/Drew as its DNA. A true example of service-leadership, she was fearless to do, say, and stand for her students and staff whenever needed. She carried the legacy of our school’s original vision and mission of integrity, equity, excellence forward with unrivaled commitment and grace. Dr. Woods is not only the heart of this community, but she is also the embodiment of the best we aspire to be in service, in humanity, and in love."
The King/Drew Community formally invites and requests your presence at King Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science for our 40th Anniversary Celebration and the Dr. J. Michelle Rainey Woods Administration Office Dedication, as we present Dr. J. Michelle Rainey Woods with the Leadership of Excellence Award on Friday, June 2nd at 4:30 p.m. in our school’s lobby.
