Sunday, September 26 is Christian Education and Theological Education Emphasis.
Members of the Christian Education Commission will be leading in worship. Christian and Theological Education Emphasis has as its purpose responsible biblical interpretation as it communicates the message of the Bible to the contemporary concerns of life. Given how easily scripture gets misinterpreted and misused to alienate, isolate, perpetuate petty prejudices, promote proclivities and practices, it is absolutely necessary to responsibly interpret scripture and make the appropriate application to our lives. Otherwise, we practice toxic churchianity and parade it as Christianity making bullying, narcissism, racism, and sexism acceptable.

Facilitated by Dr. Lorn Foster, the Black History class returned this past Saturday with a discussion about "The 1619 Project". The next class will be Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 11:00 AM. The topic for this session will be the economic factors of the 1619 Project.

Back-to-School Ministry
The Back-to-School Ministry (BTS) is requesting your support of its outreach to the children of Second Baptist Church, and the larger Los Angeles community.

Congratulations!
Steven Kyle Ridgill is the son of Donna Ridgill and grandson of the late Charles, Sr., and Eunice Ridgill, who were longstanding members of Second Baptist Church, and grandson of Levester Page. Steven was sworn in as a lawyer and member of the State Bar of California at the Compton Courthouse by the Honorable Kimberly Dotson, Commissioner, on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. Steven obtained his B.A. in Economics from Harvard University and his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Steven began his legal career as a law clerk at The Cochran Firm Los Angeles and then clerked at McMurray Henriks, LLP, founded by Mr. Cochran's law partner, Randy H. McMurray and his wife, Yana G. Henriks. Steve hopes to practice public service law.
