December 6, 2020
December is the last month of the year with its special brand of unique. Advent is the first season of the Christian Calendar Year. Be sure to go to the website for all of the inspirational messages, past newsletters, advent calendar of scriptures and announcements.
A zoom church meeting is being scheduled for Sunday December 20, 2020 at noon. There will be reflections from the pastor, diaconate and trustee ministries, budget and finance commission and announcements. I am also asking that each of the auxiliaries do a report for the 2020 Annual Report for us to have on file what you were doing to be engaged with each other during the pandemic and how you fulfilled the purpose of your organization during this time of social distancing.
This is the second Sunday of Advent: We light these candles as a sign of our faith that the God we worship is not far from us and that we can clear the way for that God to come and dwell with us. We light these candles in faith that company is coming. O Come, O Come Emmanuel.
Advent hope moves us; Advent love leads us; Advent joy stirs us; Advent peace stills us, that we might affirm our King Jesus.
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God. He was born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem of Judea. He was the long-awaited Messiah whose coming was prophesied. The same Jesus lives today in our hearts. He deserves our highest loyalty and total commitment. In Jesus Christ our hope is fulfilled; our love is consummated; our joy is complete; and our peace is sealed.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
-Pastor
Dr. William S. Epps, Senior Pastor

Dear Second Baptist Church Family:
With great excitement, we welcomed our son, Alain Jesse Johnson into the world on October 12th. He was 7 pounds, 13 ounces and 21 inches! He is named after his ancestors, two great men, Ashley’s great-uncle Allen and Alex’s father Jesse. We are blessed beyond measure! To God be the glory for the great things he has done.
With love,
Alex and Ashley Johnson

Cicley Johnson has started a new business!
"Culture Chest is birthed out of the love of the African Diaspora that my parents experienced, held, and transferred to me through education and artifacts that were in their chests of drawers, and those of my ancestors. This love inspired me to begin to travel the African Diaspora, and I was able to experience the same feelings of love, home, and family that they experienced. This brand was crafted and created to educate, represent, and inspire. I am passionate about wearing intentional apparel that educates, represents and inspires. Many of the pieces in Culture Chest serve as conversation starters, and propel thought provoking conversations about the origins of so many aspects of everyday culture that are rooted in the African Diaspora. My hope is that you feel proud, royal, and emboldened when wearing these pieces. Educate. Represent. Inspire."
