Hi SBC Families,
One of the things I love about our church is seeing our kids build friendships and genuinely enjoy being together. The playground is often full of kids running, laughing, and playing after church, and I’m thankful that SBC is a place where they feel at home.
I do want to ask for your help with something we’ve noticed recently. Some of the play among our older kids has become a little too physical and aggressive at times. What may feel like harmless roughhousing to an older child can quickly become unsafe, especially with younger kids sharing the same space.
As a church, we want to do more than simply tell our kids what they can and cannot do. We want to help them learn what it means to follow Jesus in the way they treat one another. Part of that is learning to recognize that our actions affect the people around us and choosing to care for those who are younger or smaller than we are.
Would you take a few minutes to talk with your kids about how they play on the church playground? We’re asking them to avoid tackling, wrestling, overly aggressive chasing, or other physical games that could result in someone getting hurt. There is still plenty of room to run, play, laugh, and have fun—we just want them to do it while looking out for one another.
Parents, we’d also appreciate your help keeping an eye on your children while they’re on the playground before and after services.
Our desire isn’t to take the fun out of being together. We want to shepherd our kids toward becoming young people who notice others, show kindness, exercise self-control, and care for those around them.
Thank you for partnering with us as we help our kids follow Jesus and make disciples.
Blessings,
Pastor Brad Noel
