Board of Retirement Special Election: 3rd General Member
SBCERS is holding a special election to fill the vacancy of 3rd General Member of the Board of Retirement. Please note this election is separate from the Regular Elections that have recently concluded. The special election will run from November 12, 2019 – December 9, 2019.

Retired and Safety Members cannot vote in this election. Only active General Members are eligible to vote.

All candidates must submit a Petition of Nomination/Declaration of Candidacy to the Clerk Recorder-Assessor's Elections Division office at 4440-A Calle Real, Santa Barbara, or 511 E. Lakeside Parkway, Suite 134, Santa Maria, no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.

Board of Retirement Election Results for 2nd General, 7th Safety and 7th Safety Alternate Members
Rob Adam Perry was elected as 2nd General Elected Member, Frederick Tan was elected as 7th Safety Member, and Ryan Sullivan was elected as 7th Alternate Safety Member.
Open Enrollment Reminder
SBCERS must receive all enrollments, changes, and cancellations (if any) NO LATER THAN Friday, November 1, 2019. Open Enrollment books, forms, and supplemental information can be found HERE .

If you have no changes to your coverage, SBCERS will automatically continue your current coverage into 2020 at the new rates.
2019 COLA Tracker
For September 2019, Los Angeles Area Inflation (year over year) was 2.99 %. The average monthly increase for 2019 to date is 3.04%.

September 2019 Investment Results
The Total Fund returned 0.71% for the month of September net of fees . For the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2019, the portfolio has returned 0.99%, generating approximately $31 million for our beneficiaries.

September 25, 2019 Board of Retirement Meeting Highlights
At the Board of Retirement's September 25, 2019 meeting, the Board received a preview of SBCERS' website redesign, a market update as of August 31, and an asset liability study based on SBCERS' most recent actuarial valuation.

RETIRED EMPLOYEES OF SANTA BARBARA COUNTY (RESBC)

RESBC is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of county retirees by providing information on critical retirement issues and offering educational/cultural social opportunities. Membership in RESBC is $2.50 monthly. Dues are deducted from the member’s Santa Barbara County pension payment. County employees may join RESBC by completing the RESBC Membership Deduction Authorization form at the time of their retirement exit conference.

Retirees may join at any time by requesting a membership form from SBCERS, 3916 State Street, Suite 100 Santa Barbara, CA 93105, 1-877-568-2940 or, by clicking HERE  and sending the completed form to benefits@sbcers.org .  

RESBC Membership benefits include:
  • 4 issues of the RESBC newsletter per year
