Presentation 1: IP Basics and USPTO Resources


Are you interested in learning about intellectual property (IP) fundamentals? Join us for this interactive session. You will be provided an overview of four different types of IP (patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights) while learning the importance of understanding each type. In addition, learn about USPTO resources and initiatives that assist the innovation ecosystem.

Jacob oversees daily operations and outreach for the Texas office. With 20+ years at USPTO, he’s a seasoned patent examiner and leader. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State.


Reynaldo Vasquez

Regional Outreach Officer, USPTO- Southwest Regional Outreach Office


Reynaldo manages outreach across 8 states. With past roles at the SBA and ICE, and ongoing service in the Army National Guard, he brings expertise in entrepreneurship and international trade.


Presentation 2: Survey of Copyright Law and Practical Considerations for the Artisan/Musician



This session provides an overview of copyright law, filing requirements, and the benefits of registering works with the Library of Congress Copyright Office. Real-world examples of copyright infringement will be discussed to help creatives understand legal boundaries and protections.


Attendees will leave with a high-level understanding of copyrights and how they apply to original works of authorship in the arts and music.
