Call for Speakers for 2025 Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. | |

Attention Nevada lawyers! The State Bar of Nevada’s 2025 annual conference will be held June 12-13 in Washington, D.C. The state bar invites you to submit proposals to speak. This is an excellent opportunity to share your expertise with a diverse audience of lawyers and judges from throughout the state.
What we're looking for:
- Presentations on cutting-edge legal topics relevant to Nevada lawyers.
- Insights on recent legislative changes and their impact on various legal sectors.
- Innovative approaches to legal challenges faced by practitioners in different specialties.
- Discussions on ethics, professional responsibility, wellbeing, and the future of legal practice.

Out-of-State Attorneys Must File Pursuant to RPC 5.5A by Jan. 31 | |

Out-of-state attorneys representing Nevada clients in extra-judicial matters pending in or substantially related to Nevada are required to register with the State Bar of Nevada by filing an annual report each calendar year. This annual report must be filed by January 31.
This registration is required by Nevada Rule of Professional Conduct 5.5A, regarding the Unauthorized Practice of Law. Copies of the form are available on the state bar's website. A reporting fee of $150 is required.
Members of the State Bar of Nevada can assist their fellow counsel by reminding them of this requirement and providing them with the information needed to access the required forms. This requirement frequently applies in transactional matters, such as out-of-state real estate transactions.

Eighth Judicial District Court Issues Order for Election Matters | |

The Eighth Judicial District Court issued Administrative Order (AO) 24-08 to prepare for the possibility that actions pertaining to the election process may be filed during or after business hours on election day, November 5, 2024.
According to the order, any election-related matter that requires a hearing to take place after 5 p.m. on election day will be held virtually before one of the designated election day judges. Judges in Departments 5, 6, and 9 have been assigned to serve as election day judges.
The hearings will be held via Zoom, and the media and/or the public may watch. The Zoom meeting access information for each department is included in AO 24-08. In addition, the hearings will be livestreamed at the Eighth Judicial District Court’s website.

Applicants Sought for Commission on Judicial Discipline | |

The Commission on Judicial Discipline seeks to fill a vacancy for an alternate member of the commission. To be eligible, applicants must be residents of any county other than Clark County. The person appointed will fill the remainder of the four-year term that ends on December 31, 2028. The state bar’s Board of Governors shall appoint an attorney member to fill the vacancy.
The commission investigates allegations of judicial misconduct in office, violations of the Revised Nevada Code of Judicial Conduct, or disability of judges.
Interested applicants should complete an online application form. All applications must be received no later than noon on Wednesday, October 30.

First Judicial District Bar Association Hosting CLE Lunch | |

The First Judicial District Bar Association (FJDBA) is hosting a one-hour general credit CLE titled “Grazing Rights and Cattle Ranching Rights” at noon Friday, November 1, at Red’s Old 395 Grill at 1055 South Carson Street in Carson City. Tim D. O’Connor will be the speaker.
