Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Elissa Cadish has announced that the Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection received seven applications from individuals who wish to fill the judicial opening in Department 27 of the Eighth Judicial District Court.

The commission will nominate a panel of three to fill the vacancy. Department 27 is vacant through the resignation of the Honorable Nancy Allf in January of this year. The applicants in alphabetical order are as follows:

  • David Reed Clayson;
  • Tracy Ip Hibbetts;
  • Alexandra McCleod;
  • Erika Mendoza;
  • Robert Allen Stephens;
  • Timothy P. Thomas; and
  • Steven Morris.

Nevada attorneys with 10 years of legal experience, including two years of Nevada practice, were encouraged to apply for the opening. Interviews to fill this vacancy will be held in February, in Las Vegas. Interviews will be streamed live through the Nevada Supreme Court’s YouTube channel and are open to the public. After the interviews, the commission will nominate three finalists to Governor Joe Lombardo.

This Week at the State Bar

The State Bar of Nevada is looking for qualified individuals (attorneys and non-attorneys) from both the south and north to fill open positions on the Fee Dispute Arbitration Committee.

The committee is comprised of volunteer members who resolve disputes regarding legal fees and costs (min. $250) between clients and attorneys through mediation or arbitration (binding if parties agree to be bound) (per SCR 86(12).

So, if you have a knack for helping parties settle disputes, apply for the committee here.

Remember to always use the most current pro hac vice application, which is available on the Library of Forms in Word and as a pdf.

Check Yes Supporting Pro Bono, Nevada Bar Foundation When Renewing

Member donations during dues renewal matter in supporting pro bono in Nevada and legal education through the Nevada Bar Foundation. If you renew yourself, the state bar encourages you to select the option to make a voluntary donation to legal aid pro bono programs and/or the Nevada Bar Foundation. If someone renews for you, you can donate online and select your preferences.

Every year, more and more responsibility is placed on Nevada’s legal aid providers to help Nevadans get fair legal outcomes. The Nevada Bar Foundation’s legal education includes helping fund the High School Mock Trial Competition, which affords the opportunity for students to get excited about the legal profession. One hundred percent of pro bono donations go to legal aid providers based on your voting district, and 100 percent of NBF donations support legal education. Member donations make a big impact.
