“Just because the season of giving is done, does not mean the need is gone” says Betty Birch, a Stettler and District Food Bank volunteer.
Betty gushed about how much Stettler does for the foodbank; Christmas parties make it the Foodbank a focus, businesses do drives before the holidays and organizations all over town collect on their behalf. Stettler really comes out in the holiday, but what about after the big tree on Main Street comes down?
The effort the town of Stettler puts in as a collective does not go unnoticed by foodbank workers. The Stettler and District Food Bank is a not for profit organization that has been run solely by volunteers from the community in order to provide food to families in need. The Food Bank is located in the basement of the Stettler United Church.
Betty says that although their need is great around the holidays they do notice dips in certain items seasonally in the spring and in the fall.
If you are looking to make a food donation to the Food Bank Betty recommends peanut butter, jam, cereal, canned fruit, and cheese spread.
The Food Bank also does accept cash donations through the Stettler FCSS. If you wish to volunteer your time you can call 403-742-2337.
