What admin are saying about

The Stock Market Game

"I first came across the Stock Market Game in my fifth grade gifted and talented class! It was the year 2000 and there was nothing more exhilarating than getting to check our stock updates on the blue Apple iMac computer. Fast forward fifteen years and I found myself wanting to offer those same advanced learning opportunities to my own fourth grade students. It was encouraging to watch them come up with stocks they felt would grow in value and then invest their time in wanting to check for changes constantly. The engagement SMG warranted from my students was unmatched. Now, as an assistant principal, I don't just value SMG for the advanced learning opportunities or student engagement. I am passionate about incorporating this program in our school for all students so that they can be one step ahead in the world of financial literacy. It is my belief that this is an area that we haven't prepared students adequately for when it comes to real world application and what better time to start this exposure than in elementary school!"

A collaboration between SC Economics and the SC Treasurer's Office, funded through the Future Scholar Program, the SC Financial Literacy Master Teacher (SCFLMT) Program provides training and stipends for SC K-12 teachers to learn and grow in the important area of financial literacy. Financial literacy concepts span all disciplines and have the potential to change generations. For this reason, the SCFLMT program is open to all SC teachers who teach any grade levels, any subject.

We all recognize that the most powerful tool we have to initiate positive change is through quality instruction in our classrooms. Together, we can make that significant difference in the future quality of life for our fellow South Carolinians.
