SC Forest Products Exports: May 2021
Wood products export from South Carolina amounted to $93.8 million in May 2021. It is an increase of $11.9 million (+14.5%) from April. Year-to-date, the state has exported $416.7 million in forest products, which is still 4.3% below 2020 over the same period. Remarkable, almost all sectors showed positive changes from the previous month. For example, the paper and solid wood products sectors observed increases of 9% month-over-month each. More notably, exports of pulp increased by 22.5%, and those of wood chemicals increased by 20%. The commodities driving this jump in shipments are chemical woodpulp (soda or sulfate) to South Korea, Japan, and Italy; uncoated Kraft paper to Mexico, Taiwan, and Germany; lumber to China; and residual lyes from the manufacture of pulp to Indonesia.
