Lilia Becerril
Central Learning Adult School Site
Congratulations to Lilia Becerril, who was recognized by the Fresno City Council as Woman of the Year for Council District Five. In her honor, March 18, 2021 was proclaimed 'Lilia Becerril Day'.
Lilia came from Mexico 31 years ago, and immersed herself in volunteer work for the betterment of the community. A tireless activist, she has dedicated herself to serving her community and advocating for fair immigration reform, a better and more equitable education system, and quality healthcare for low-income individuals. She participates in activities at the local, state, and national levels, and is the national representative for the Family Math Roadmap Project.
Lilia is currently an ESL student at Central Learning Adult School Site.

Registration is still open for the CCAE State Conference, April 21-23, 2021!
The conference has over 60 sessions offering plenty of opportunities to network with Adult Education colleagues of all levels of experience and diverse backgrounds.
In addition, be sure to attend General Session 3 where our own Pang Vangyi, SCAEC Regional Transitions Counselor, will receive the Donald A. McCune Collaborative Award. Congratulations Pang!

Earn a Bookkeeping Fundamentals Certificate!
Beginning in August, Fresno City College, in partnership with the Fresno K-16 Collaborative and State Center Adult Education Consortium, will be offering a Bookkeeping Fundamentals Certificate. The courses will have a flexible schedule and are reserved for current adult school learners transitioning to college.
Fees for qualified Adult Education candidates are covered through the funds and efforts of the Fresno K-16 Collaborative and State Center Adult Education Consortium.

Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Training
The Fresno Regional Workforce Development Board is offering a 6-week, no-cost training designed to expose students to several different construction trades. The next class will begin on July 6, 2021 and is limited to 20 students.

CALPRO Civics in Adult Education Webinar
May 17, 2021
This webinar will prepare instructors to embed Civics education into adult high school equivalency completion, adult basic education programs, English literacy, and civics education. Topics will include best practices, lesson plan ideas, and resources for Civics instruction.
CALPRO Training of Trainers
June 21 and 25, 2021
The application for CALPRO Training of Trainers module on collaborative curriculum alignment is now open. Accepted participants agree to become a CALPRO trainer, and to offer the training at least once in the year following the training. Support and mentoring are provided by CALPRO.

MADERA COUNTY WORKFORCE ASSISTANCE CENTER SERVICES
The MCWAC Business Services Unit holds weekly Rapid Response Zoom Orientation sessions for individuals that have been laid off and impacted by COVID-19.
They have also received additional funds to provide supportive service assistance for individuals who have been laid off due to COVID-19, have experienced a reduction in hours/pay due to COVID-19, or are unable to work for COVID-19 related reasons.
