The State Center Adult Education Consortium consists of adult schools, community colleges, and other local partners that provide basic education and short-term career technical education training for adults 18 years and older in order to assist with seamless transitions into the workforce and/or post-secondary education.

Student Success Story
Miriam Andres - Kings Canyon Adult School
Miriam was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, migrating with her family to the United States when she was 4 years old. She attended Kingsburg High School, but dropped out to raise her son. Miriam enrolled at Kings Canyon Adult School and graduated in 2013 with her high school diploma.

Miriam states, "I was a single mom at the time but attending this school helped me get through my education and life a lot more smoothly.  I enjoyed attending Kings Canyon Adult School because teachers and staff were interested in my success".

After graduating, Miriam transferred and completed her Associates Degree in Liberal Studies at Reedley College. With the completion of her AS degree, she is currently working as a substitute for Kings Canyon Unified School District while attending Fresno Pacific University to become a Social Worker.

SCAEC Board Members Receive Awards
Deborah Marvin and Nancy Penny, State Center Adult Education Consortium Board Members, were presented with awards at recent ceremonies.

Deborah, Superintendent of Valley ROP, was recognized at the 9th Annual Valley ROP and Reedley College Joint Advisory Meeting with an Educational Award for her 25 years of work and leadership with State Center Community College District.

Nancy, Principal of Sanger Adult School, was recognized as the 2018 Educator of the Year for her 28 years of service to Sanger Unified School District. The award was presented at the Sanger District Chamber of Commerce 93rd Annual Awards Banquet.

Golden Valley USD Educational Options School Highlighted in Local Publication
A recent issue of The
Ranchos Independent
included an interview with Avo Atoian, Principal at Educational Options, and State Center Adult Education Consortium 
Board Member. 

Educational Options consists of six separate schools, including Golden Valley Adult School, which offers independent study programs in High School Diploma, ESL, Citizenship, and Technology for students 18 years and older. 

Partnerships To Unlock Social Mobility 2.0
The California Workforce Association is hosting a series of regional meetings focused on serving the re-entry population and connecting them to regional career pathways.

The meetings will bring key workforce and corrections partners together to catalog their successful strategies for serving re-entry populations and to identify services and partnerships that are needed to connect proven supply-side strategies for the re-entry population with demand-side regional workforce successes.

The Central Valley North meeting will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 in Modesto, CA. There is no fee to attend.

English Language Learner (ELL) Workforce Navigator Pilot Program
The Madera County Workforce Investment Corporation, in collaboration with the Fresno Regional Workforce Development Board, and the State Center Adult Education Consortium, helps individuals who face substantial cultural and language barriers to employment become equipped for careers, empowered with character, and prepared to participate in the global economy.

COABE NCSDAE Legislative Alert
On February 9, President Trump signed a Continuing Resolution that includes significant increases in Non-defense
Discretionary spending and offers the opport unity to increase funding for Adult Education, among other programs. 

Now, each Appropriations Committee must decide how to allocate its new funds. This is a unique opportunity to increase funding for Adult Education by $100 million (a roughly 17 percent increase).

USA Learns - Free Online Courses in US Citizenship and English
USA Learns is a free website created by the Sacramento County Office of Education to help adults learn English and prepare for U.S. Citizenship. 

The website teaches English by providing engaging videos and educational activities. Learners have the opportunity to learn English independently or with the support of their teacher. 

Teachers may access the USA Learn for Teachers website that enables adult educators to easily create online courses and monitor their students' progress as they complete the activities and lessons.

CCAE Regional Consortium Directory
CCAE is compiling a directory of the most updated adult education providers which will include primary contacts, program areas in which they deliver instruction, and total number of students served.  The goal is to strengthen local sharing of best practices by creating a directory of programs that is easy to use.

AEBG Services Directory Now Available Online
You can now access services, by program area, for each consortium and each member within a consortium through the AEBG Services Directory, which is accessible below and via the AEBG homepage.  This is a great collaboration tool in that it allows you to easily see which other consortia or members offer similar services and can also be shared with prospective students who want to know more about programs offered within their community.

AEBG Report on Implementation and Effectiveness
The Preliminary Report on the Implementation and Effectiveness of the Adult Education Block Grant Program is now available on the AEBG website.

To ensure that AEBG funding accelerates adults into employment, living wages, and full engagement in society, AEBG state legislation requires the the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction submit reports to the Legislature.  This is the preliminary report, with the final report due March 1, 2018, and it addresses the key requirements of the legislation, the evolution of California's adult education system, and recommendations.
