FAM (Families are Magic) has compiled its annual April packet full of information on this year's theme as well as child abuse and neglect prevention. There are so many ways for you, your family, your business, your school, and your community to become involved and help SCAN to prevent child abuse and neglect in the Greater Richmond area.

Stewards of Children Prevent-A-Thon
SCAN will be hosting Richmond's
11th Annual Prevent-A-Thon ,
April 14 through April 20
SCAN will offer Stewards of Children trainings *free* of charge to all participants. These trainings will be conducted in 2.5 hour time slots.
 
Stewards of Children is an internationally recognized revolutionary training that educates adults about how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. This program was created by Darkness to Light ( www.d2l.org ).  Greater Richmond SCAN has been offering the trainings throughout this area since 2008. Stewards of Children is ideal for parents, staff and volunteers in youth-serving organizations, and concerned community members. SCAN believes it's the responsibility of adults to prevent child sexual abuse. Stewards of Children gives everyone the tools to do this.

Two Opportunities to Join the Resilience Movement and Learn about Dr. Nadine Burke Harris's Work
Resilience chronicles the birth of a new movement among pediatricians, therapists, educators and communities, who are using cutting-edge brain science to disrupt cycles of violence, addiction and disease. The film portrays a dynamic group of individuals who are proving that cycles of disease and adversity can be broken.

Attend a free, public screening of Resilience in April. A short discussion will follow the film.

Greater Richmond SCAN, Family and Children's Trust Fund of Virginia, Voices for Virginia's Children, Families Forward, and Community Idea Stations WCVW PBS are proud to present a special airing of Resilience on April 25, 2019 at 9:00pm in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Resilience will air across on partner stations across Virginia including:
 
WCVW -- 57.1 (Richmond/Petersburg)
 
WHTJ D2 -- Charlottesville (this is WCVW in that area and not WHTJ main channel)
 
WVPT D2 -- Harrisonburg (This is WCVW/WVPY in Harrisonburg which is the WCVW signal in that area and not WVPT main).

Pinwheels are the national symbol for child abuse prevention because they represent a happy, uplifting childhood. SCAN invites you to use pinwheels as a visible show of support for keeping children in our community safe.

Other Ways to Support SCAN During Child Abuse Prevention Month
There are so many ways to get involved this April in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month!

Get a group together at your office, faith community, book club, or anywhere else and collect healthy snacks and for use in SCAN's children's programs.

Have a Casual Day in honor of SCAN during which staff members can wear relaxed attire in exchange for a $5 donation to SCAN. All proceeds will go to protect children through SCAN's 5 programs.

Invite a SCAN representative to talk to staff members about the issue of child abuse, child abuse prevention, and ways they can help keep children safe. 

Become a Richmond CASA volunteer! Applications for our next training class are due by April 2. Learn more on the SCAN website.

Donate in honor of a child you love and protect other children in our community.
