SCAN’s Richmond Child Advocacy Center Receives Reaccreditation Status from National Children's Alliance!
SCAN’s Child Advocacy Center has come a long way since first opening its doors in 2004. Since then we have served thousands of children, opened a satellite location in Henrico and expanded trauma-focused treatment options for families in our community.

The Child Advocacy Center recently received reaccreditation from the National Children’s Alliance, which is a major accomplishment in the CAC world! Formed in 1988, NCA has been providing support, technical assistance, and quality assurance for CACs, while serving as a voice for abused children for more than 25 years. Because CACs are working with some of our most vulnerable children who need to receive services in a safe, friendly, trauma-informed environment the NCA’s standards for accreditation are high. They include a number of evidence supported standards in areas of focus such as organizational capacity, multidisciplinary teams, cultural competency and diversity, forensic interview, victim support and advocacy, mental health, medical health, case review and tracking and child-focused settings.

The process gave CAC staff, as well as the Richmond multidisciplinary team, a chance to reflect on our current practices and ensure SCAN’s CACs were operating at the highest quality possible. The reaccreditation process culminated in an NCA site visit in November 2018 where CAC staff, leadership, SCAN Board members, and the Richmond MDT participated in meetings and interviews. The site reviewers, who visit CACs across the country, were blown away by the level of professionalism and functioning of the Richmond MDT. They also noted that the CAC’s Trauma Focused Treatment Program was extraordinary and one of the best they’ve seen.

Congratulations and thank you to the Child Advocacy Center staff and all our MDT partners! The Richmond community is a better, safer place for children because of your efforts.
