Lindsay Dillon first joined the BYP in 2018 and quickly became an engaged member of the group. She has served as Engagement Chair and Vice Chair and has now stepped into the role of BYP Chair for the 21-22 year. We are looking forward to having her experience, excitement for SCAN and the BYP, and leadership this year.
How did you first get involved with SCAN?
After graduating from college and moving back home to Richmond, I had been looking for more ways to get involved in the community. A friend of mine, who was on the BYP at the time, invited me to the Blue & White Ball a few years ago and I was immediately drawn to the mission of SCAN, and passionate dynamic of the BYP members I met at the event. I knew right away that this was an organization I wanted to be involved with!
What has your life/work experience been that brought you to SCAN?
Growing up, I did a lot of volunteering and tutoring with children, and I knew that was how I wanted to give back as an adult. My role in the finance industry does not give me the opportunity to work with children day by day, but serving on SCAN’s BYP fulfills that special place in my heart.
Is there anything you wish other people knew about SCAN?
I wish more people knew about each of SCAN’s five programs so they could see how broadly SCAN’s community involvement reaches. Each of these programs also present unique volunteer opportunities for people in the community, from advocating as a CASA to engaging in critically important training initiatives.
What has been the best experience with SCAN so far?
I would say that putting together the Blue and White Ball each year has been a major highlight for me. Working with local businesses, community leaders and SCAN staff/BYP members to fundraise for SCAN has been incredibly rewarding.
Do you have any goals or hopes for the next year?
Although the COVID-19 pandemic presented many challenges over this past, it also encouraged so much creativity and innovation among those involved with SCAN. I would love to see that inspiring level of momentum continue into the coming year.
Are you involved with any other community organizations, hobbies, or activities?
Currently, I am a member of NeXt Estate Planning Group as well as the Commonwealth chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. I am also working on obtaining my MBA from Wake Forest University. In my spare time, I love reading, traveling, hiking, checking out live music and spending time with my friends, family and pets!
