Weekly news & updates

January 21, 2022

Dear SCBA Parents:

January is flying by and SCBA is moving right along with our 2nd semester of the year! I am praying that everyone who has been out this week will be 100% and be back in the building next week. With 25% of our school population out this week, we miss you all dearly! Our school is not complete with you not here.

Please join us at one of the weekend Masses NEXT WEEKEND, January 29th and 30th to help us kick off Catholic Schools Week. Scholars will be greeters and lectors during our Masses. We are asking our scholars to wear their school uniforms to Mass next weekend. We also want each scholar to bring a can of soup to the Mass, and the scholars will bring the cans up to the altar at the offertory time. I hope to see all our scholars at one of our masses next weekend.

As we move into the end of January and welcome a chance to celebrate Catholic Schools, I am so thankful for all of you who value SCBA and partner with the school and parish to educate your scholar. God has blessed this community with so much and it is wonderful to come together as a community and celebrate our wonderful Catholic school and all it has to offer!

As you can see, COVID-19 has hit our school community hard this week. We have consistently had 24.5% of our school population out this week due to COVID-19 and other illnesses. We will continue in masks for another week and evaluate again next week.

Blessings for a wonderful weekend.

School Safety Update

Dear SCBA Parents:

As you are all aware, school safety is important to all of us and everyone at SCBA wants our scholars and teachers to be at the safest school possible.

Along with relocating our Extended Care program and moving lunch into the gym, we want to make sure our teachers and staff are trained in the event there is an active shooter or intruder in the building. While this topic is hard to think about, it is important that our school faculty and staff are trained in best practices to keep everyone safe should this situation arise.

I have been in communication with Captain Coffer of the Clay County Sheriff’s Department about training and working with SCBA on updating our crisis plan. Captain Coffer referred me to a company called Strategos International. They work with schools and churches with training faculty and staff on what to do if there was an active shooter or intruder in the building.

SCBA has scheduled a training day for the school and parish staff and faculty on this topic on FRIDAY, JANUARY 28, 2022. This was not on the earlier updated January calendar that was shared; however, there will be NO SCHOOL for all our scholars on Friday, 1/28/22

We will not be offering before or after care or the 2 year-old room so all of our staff and faculty can attend the training. While I hate having to schedule a no school day, I feel the training is very valuable and could be life saving for all of us.

Thank you for your continued support of our academy!
