Get to know your new team:
Since joining SCBWI in 2003, I have made life-long friends and learned more about craft than I ever thought possible. (And yes, I still have tons to learn!) I’m thankful for the multiple opportunities I've been given to serve in the Carolinas and am thrilled to now be part of the regional team. Our chapter rocks and I'm excited for what lies ahead! When I’m not homeschooling or writing, I love hiking with my family, learning Irish, watching British cozy mysteries, and cooking. (And like most people, I wish my dishes would clean themselves!) I live in Concord with my husband and three daughters, our two Plott Hounds, and a foster guinea pig named Mr. Pigglesworth.
(Assistant Regional Advisor)
I've been a member of SCBWI for 16 years now, which is really hard to believe! I hold an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and I currently work part-time as an editorial reader for Upstart Crow Literary Agency and as an independent editorial consultant. My time at VCFA and my work has made me realize how truly unique the kidlit community is, and I sincerely believe that SCBWI, by combining community and craft, represents the best of the best. I am honored to be able to be a part of the Carolina’s regional team and look forward to getting to know as many members as possible. Other interests: I love hiking, boating, and daydreaming, and I desperately want to be the kind of person who likes running and yoga, but I am not that person. Yet I still regularly attempt both activities
With a unique blend of counseling and fine art degrees, I write and illustrate children’s picture books that encourage emotional intelligence and resilience through humor and imagination. I have a BFA in Art and Teaching Certification from the University of Michigan along with a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Central Michigan University I have been a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators since 2006. When I am not working on my latest book I can be found hiking the trails of North Carolina with my husband Terry and our german shepherd Greta.
