Hello everyone! It’s wonderful to be back from Bologna! We’ve recharged our energy, gathered so much inspiration, and had the joy of meeting both new and familiar friends. We’re already planning to return next year!

Our illustrator of the month is... Ofir Hanin!

Ofir is a digital illustrator who seeks to find the magic in the mundane and enjoys exploring style and color. Ofir is starting her journey in children’s book illustration and is currently working on illustrating her first book.

נתי בית הוא סופר ילדים שעלה לישראל בגיל 19 ולמד עברית כשפה חדשה - תהליך שהוביל אותו לכתוב סיפורים לבתו הקטנה, ומשם התאהב בכתיבה. מאז פרסם עשרה ספרי ילדים מצליחים, רבים מהם נבחרו לספריית פיג'מה ולמצעד הספרים, ואף זכה בפרס דבורה עומר. כיום הוא

כותב, מתרגם ונפגש עם ילדים, וממשיך לעבוד על סיפורים אישיים חדשים לילדים

טיפ לסופרות ולסופרים:י

תשקיעו בנושא מעניין ובעלילה מרתקת. תנו לגיבורים שלכם לטעות, להתחבט, להיכשל ורק בסוף לנצח או להגיע לפתרון הבעיה. ככל שתכתבו לילדים קטנים יותר כך עולה החשיבות של חזרות בטקסט. תכתבו כך שהילד יבקש לקרוא את הספר שוב ושוב והמבוגר ייהנה להקריא אותו פעם אחר פעם

טיפ על חריזה:י

על רגל אחת: על שלושה דברים שיר ילדים עומד - על המשקל ועל החריזה ועל השפה הטבעית. ככל שהם טובים יותר - כך עולה איכותו של השיר

Introducing our new feature—our Author of the Month is… Nati Bait!

Nati Bait is a children’s author who immigrated to Israel at age 19 and learned Hebrew as a new language—a process that led him to write stories for his young daughter, and from there, he fell in love with writing. Since then, he has published ten successful children’s books, many of which were selected for the PJ Library and for the Israeli Book Parade, and he is also a recipient of the Deborah Omer Prize. Today, he writes, translates, and meets with children, while continuing to work on new personal stories for young readers.

Tip for Writers:

Invest in an engaging topic and a compelling plot. Let your characters make mistakes, struggle, and even fail before finally succeeding or finding a solution to their problem. The younger the readers you write for, the more important repetition becomes. Write in a way that makes children want to read the book again and again – and adults enjoy reading it aloud each time.

Tip on Rhyme:

In short, a children’s poem stands on three pillars – rhythm, rhyme, and natural language. The stronger these elements are, the higher the quality of the poem.

The "Evening Book Club” will take place on May 5th at 20:00.

We’ll explore several picture books together. After each reading, we'll discuss what each book meant to us, what we liked or didn't, and how the illustrations made us feel! The program will be conducted in English.

Rachel Rowlands is a freelance fiction editor and author, and an Advanced Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). She holds a degree in English and Creative Writing and has worked on hundreds of books for both independent authors and publishing houses, including Hachette, HarperCollins, Chicken House Books, Badger Learning, and Penguin Random House.

Congratulations to Dafna Barzilay for being selected as one of the 30 finalists in the BOit! contest. Her work was showcased at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair this year, standing out among submissions from around the world.

This year’s theme, City and Water, invited artists to explore the relationship between urban life and aquatic environments. Dafna’s piece, Sun Soak, offers her unique visual interpretation of the theme.
