Hello friends,

It's time for that important question on everyone's mind...

Will March come In like a lion and out like a lamb? Or the other way around?

Maybe for us creatives, the better question is how can I identify an evergreen concept like fickle weather and build an illustration or character or storyline that incorporates it and similarly stands the test of time? Research shows the lion and lamb proverb is about 290 years old!

But here's the fun part of this history lesson.

Another iteration of the same concept written at the same timeframe never quite caught on and I think we can see why. "March many-Weathers rain’d and blow’d / But March grass never did good." Doesn't quite have the imagery and stickling power of the lions and lambs, does it?

Here's to catching evergreens and finding the best way to share them with young readers.
As always, if you have any questions related to SCBWI-MI or the SCBWI organization, please feel free to contact your co-RAs, Carrie Pearson or Jodi McKay or our IC, Katie Eberts.
