Good news! This month, we have a Hello-Letter Takeover by SCBWI-MI Illustrator Coordinator, Katie Eberts. Take it away, Katie!
Hello friends,
I hope your May is off to a good start! We’re about to step into summer’s busy season, and so this spring (the calm before the storm as I like to think of it) I hope you will find small and easy ways to keep your creative juices flowing.
To our illustrators: when you have a moment, take a look at the For Illustrators page on our website, which has been updated with our busy schedules in mind. Did you know that we all can submit regularly to the Bulletin, SCBWI’s quarterly magazine? Or that there is a monthly drawing prompt called Draw This! that you can participate in on social media? You will find all of the details there so you don’t have to spend time searching.
Additionally, there are many online events and workshops happening in other regions and they are happy to welcome us Michiganders into the mix. I recently attended an Illustrators Intensive via Zoom in the Southern Breeze region and was able to have my website portfolio critiqued live by some art directors and agents, plus learn some really good tips about the industry and some fresh techniques to try in my work. Those online events will be listed on the For Illustrators page as well as posted on our instagram feed — follow @scbwimichiganillustrators if you are not already!
Finally, I hope you will take some time to get outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and sketch from life! A statewide Spring Sketch Weekend is currently in the works for June, and more details will come as they get ironed out. If you are interested in hosting a sketch event in your area to coincide, please send me an email at [email protected] — the more the merrier!
Until June,
Katie
