September Meeting
The New Massachusetts Equal Pay Act
Last Year's Event
Outback Steakhouse
45 Mazzeo Dr., Randolph
Thursday, Sept 20
11:30m - 1:00pm

Jorge Arevalo is the GM at Outback Steakhouse in Randolph, who has, once again, invited your SCC Members to a lovely afternoon luncheon.  Outback will be serving some of their staples, steak & chicken, along with smashed potato and a salad.

Our Guest Speaker is Kathryn M Murphy, Partner at  Murphy, Hesse, Toomey & Lehane, LLP , based  in Quincy MA.   Murphy, Hesse, Toomey & Lehane, LLP (MHTL), is a multi-service law firm.  Kathy practices primarily in the employment law areas where she works with employers on matters touching on the workplace, ranging from employee relations, wage and hour, discrimination matters, internal investigations contracts, workplace policies, training and general counseling, to litigation and Government audits.
Before practicing with MHTL, Kathy practiced as a CPA and with the Office of the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Initially as a financial investigator in the Public Protection area, then, later as an Assistant Attorney General in the Fair Labor Division, where she handled criminal & administrative enforcement of labor laws including wage and hour matters.  More recently Kathy has obtained a Senior Professional Human Resource certification.

The new  Massachusetts Equal Pay Act (MEPA)  went into effect on July 1, 2018!  In this high level overview,  Attorney Kathy Murphy  will provide our members and guests with a summary of some of the law's new requirements, such as; the new definition of " comparable work " and permissible defenses to pay differentials; the broad definition of " pay "; new restrictions on salary history inquiries in the hiring process; the new rules prohibiting employers from restricting certain employee wage discussions.  Some attentionmay also be given to self-audits as the new affirmative defense under the statute.

The cost for this meeting is $15.00p.p.
