Parent Education
Lorea Martinez , Parent Ed Liaison
Girls are often influenced by subtle and not-so-subtle messages to believe that their role in life is to please others and to be “perfect” rather than take care of themselves and follow their own dreams. According to Dr. Lisa Damour, author of the new book Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls, our daughters have gotten the powerful message that they are expected to accommodate others’ requests. If you are raising girls, pay attention to how you pressure them to say yes, and support them to say no with confidence. For more tips and details about the book, read this article from the Greater Good Science Center.

Coming on Tuesday, SCC is hosting a yoga and mindfulness self-care session for the parent community. Sign up here or just show up with comfortable clothes. For details on other events, click on the button below. Happy Parenting!
