SCC Weekly Newsletter: May 20 - 26, 2019
Director's Spotlight On... Volunteer Appreciation
Every year the staff puts together a breakfast for our volunteers; it is our formal thank you for the many ways in which you support SCC's learners, staff, and organization. This year the breakfast will be on Friday, May 24th , in the lunch area. We sincerely hope that you can arrange your schedule so that you can stop by, have a treat, and let us say thank you for all of your time, energy, and support.

We are awe-struck by the phenomenal volunteer efforts this year. We are sincerely grateful and indebted to you all for the thousands of hours and resources that you have invested this year to keep SCC thriving.  Everyone is welcome; you all play a part in supporting our learners, program, and staff.

We should be (mostly) set up by 7:45 AM so those of you that need to get to work can join us for a while. We will have coffee and goodies set out. The classroom educators will be there until they head off to teach (8:15 am), but we will continue to hang out until 9:45. While your young ones who are not yet SCC learners are welcome, we respectfully ask that no school-age children eat breakfast with us. We will not have enough food to feed ALL of the learners and the parents. This breakfast is about the volunteers! Also, in the past some learners stop by and graze before school, and it results in some hard feelings on the part of the kids that didn't get any food. The best solution is to ask all school-age children not to join us for breakfast.

Please try and stop by; we really hope that you can join us, even if it is just for a brief time.  Hope to see many, many, many of you there!
Board of Directors Update
Olin Palmer , on behalf of the BOD
What: Annual Review Feedback Survey for Stacy Emory, SCC’s Executive Director
When: From now to end of day Saturday, June 1st

Dear Charter Community Members,

Annually the board of directors asks for feedback from the community and staff on the performance of the school’s Executive Director, Stacy Emory. Only board members see the actual survey responses, and yes, we do read every comment. We review the results as a group and compare to prior year data for year-over-year trends. This is a significant input to the Executive Director’s annual review. At your earliest convenience, please fill out the survey and add any comments as appropriate.

Thank you,
Olin Palmer and the SCC Board of Directors

Parent Education
Lorea Martinez , Parent Ed Liaison
The end of the school year sometimes brings changes in kids’ friendships. Your child may complain about a good friend, or share that they don’t spend time together anymore. While this can be puzzling for the parent (weren’t you besties two minutes ago?), when young people are hurting over their peer relationships, they are in need of support from adults. For strategies to support your child with friendship breakups, check out this great article

Coming up on Tuesday, you can learn about mothers & sons, and teen relationships in the digital world. For details and other events, click on the button below. Happy Parenting!
