CONGRATULATIONS NORTHERN NEW JERSEY 0N 75 YEARS!! 1950-2025!

Stories, Past and Present, from our Northern New Jersey Region

This month’s story is from the Pole Position dated September 1990 and titled “Rally News” written by Peter Schneider, our current Rally Chair and Editor of the NNJR      e-newsletter.

“Now that it is September and the race season is almost over it’s time to think about the events scheduled for the fall of 1990.Our region has undertaken the task of presenting a TSD road rally in the 1990 National SCCA Touring Series, the rally is entitled ‘Roads of Home’. This rally as you may already know is scheduled for the weekend of October 19-20, 1990. Expert teams from around the United States will be arriving on Friday night for the Saturday event. In addition on the same day a shorter event called the ‘One Lap of New Jersey’ will be held to benefit the American Cancer Society. Suzuki of Denville, the Sign Company and Heavenly Bodies have agreed to be major event sponsors. …..Only 100 teams will be permitted to compete in this years ‘One Lap of New Jersey’ so if you plan on attending please contact Peter Schneider at (201) 633-9069 as soon as possible or fill out the flyer for ‘Roads of Home” and note that you are interested in competing in a non-national class……Both events will use easy to follow tulip instructions with mileage to every instruction. In addition about every 5 miles or so you will be given a key time (official time) to insure that you remain on time……..

If you are undecided as to which event to compete in, the answer is really simple. If you have run less than four or five rallies or have never competed in any type of road rally …….you should run the ‘One Lap of New Jersey’. But if you have been rallying for some time and would like to compete against the best in the country you should run the ‘Roads of Home’ rally. ……’Roads of Home’ rally is the only rally in the United States which will be included in three championship series - National Touring, SCCA NEDiv and our own METRO series. ……..Since we are hoping for 150 teams to be competing in both events we can use all the help the membership of the region can give. So please feel free to contact Peter Schneider at (201) 633-9069 and volunteer.”

2025 Season Wrap-up

Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2025 AutoX season. Even though we lost two events to weather and had a shorter schedule, the competition was still excellent.

Across 8 events, we averaged about 115 drivers. We also welcomed a record number of Novices—some events had more than 20 first-time drivers, all went home smiling and more confident behind the wheel.

Congratulations to all the class winners for your strong performances. Your hard work helped make this season successful and fun to watch.

A special shout-out to Dave Montgomery, our 2025 Driver of the Year. This was Dave’s first season with NNJR after moving from Ohio. A multi-time Solo National Champion in an FP/XP Porsche 914, he spent this year dialing in his Camaro—tweaking sway bars and tire pressures to adapt to our pavement and surface variations. By the final events, the car was really working well, he told me.

Looking ahead, the 2026 FIFA World Cup may affect our spring schedule, so please stay tuned for updates as plans develop.

The 2025 Trophy Awards will be presented at the FREE NNJR 2026 Region Party:
