SCCF Committed to Helping Community Rebuild in Aftermath of Hurricane Ian
Dear SCCF Members and Friends,

As you all know from the horrific news coverage, we are in early days of understanding the aftermath of Ian. The SCCF Board of Trustees and staff members are dedicated to doing our part to help rebuild our island community in any way we can. We will continue to communicate with you as the picture becomes clearer.

What is already clear is that the social service needs will be unprecedented.

Fortunately, F.I.S.H. of Sanibel Captiva has been helping island neighbors in need for the last 40 years, and is ready to play that role again now. We would like to ask you to consider donating to F.I.S.H. at this time. You can do so by clicking here.
Needless to say, gifts should only be made online as there will be no mail service for the foreseeable future. F.I.S.H. has asked that if you’re considering making a gift larger than $10,000, please make your online donation in multiple smaller contributions. They have advised us that some banks and credit cards may have a limit on a single gift amount.

If you have any questions about this request, or would like instructions to make an ACH wire transfer directly to the F.I.S.H bank account, please feel free to contact SCCF Development Director Cheryl Giattini at 239-822-6121 or cgiattini@sccf.org.
Please Stay out of Standing Water
There have been a couple viral video/pics going around showing a shark swimming down a Fort Myers street and an alligator in someone’s house. Whether this is true or not, people should NOT be swimming or walking in flood water as there is good potential for infections/illnesses from bacteria etc, as well as sharp objects (debris) in the water. Of course, all kinds of fish & wildlife encounters are possible as the aquatic habitat has increased and dry land has lessened.
SCCF Facilities Appear Mostly Intact in Aerial
SCCF CEO James Evans has carefully reviewed aerial imagery provided by NOAA and has the following assessment to share.

"From the aerial, it looks like our buildings fared OK, but you can’t tell flood damage from the air. The western intern housing building lost its roof and is a complete loss. Click here for a link to the viewer, which includes the ability to zoom in on all the darkened areas on this map.
