Red Tide
Satellite imagery over the past week has detected low to medium concentrations of chlorophyll off the coast of Southwest Florida.
On 1/11/23, the FWC reported the red tide organism, Karenia brevis, was detected in 72 samples collected from and offshore of Southwest Florida over the past week. Bloom concentrations (>100,000 cells/liter) were present in 16 samples: one offshore of Pinellas County, seven in Manatee County, two in Sarasota County, two offshore of Charlotte County, two offshore of Collier County, and two offshore of Monroe County.
K. brevis was observed at background to medium concentrations in and offshore of Pinellas County, background concentrations in Hillsborough County, background to medium concentrations in Manatee County, background to medium concentrations in Sarasota County, low to medium concentrations in and offshore of Charlotte County, background concentrations in Lee County, background to high concentrations offshore of Collier County, and medium concentrations offshore of Monroe County.
