"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
Isaiah 43:18-19
Welcome back to SCCS! Kendra, Nolan, Joshua, and I hope you all had a wonderful break, just like we did. As we start this new year, the verses above from Isaiah 43 couldn't be more appropriate. After completing a whirlwind year last year, buying the land for the new campus, achieving full accreditation with the Association of Classical Christian Schools, and graduating our first class, you may be wondering what could top such a fantastic year. But this year has already started with our purchase of a new 14-passenger bus, selection of a design for our first classrooms on the new campus, and good progress on plans to start construction on those classrooms this fall! Our fantastic faculty is excited about meeting their students and all of us are anticipating what the Lord has in store for us next. It is truly amazing to watch how it is all springing up! We'll see you soon...

Getting to Know you.....

My name is Angela Pihlgren and I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. I am the new Office Manager/Admissions Director replacing Jennifer Stroud at the Penn. Ave Campus. My family and I have lived in NC for almost 12 years and have been a part of SCCS going on 8 years. My sons, Michael in 7th grade and Timothy in 3rd grade, have enjoyed SCCS thus far. I have been a preschool teacher assistant at SCCS for 3 years and taught the 4 year old full day class at Penn. Ave last year. I am excited to get to know all the wonderful families and students at SCCS this year. We are going to have a great school year and can't wait to see all the smiling faces when school begins. Have a blessed and memorable summer break!

Dear SCCS Parents,

This has always been my favorite time of the year. The excitement of school supplies shopping, the anticipation of cooler weather, and of course the eagerness of a new school year. This year is no exception. Exuberant joy fills my heart at the idea of seeing all of the little faces enter the school building excited to see their friends, meet their teacher, and explore the classroom. Many new and exciting adventures are ahead of us. Let us rejoice and thank the Lord for his goodness and his abundant blessings. We are here to partner with you and to serve you in giving your child/children the best Classical Christian education possible. Please do not hesitate to call me or come in and visit to introduce yourself and say hi. This is going to be a great year and I look forward to getting to know each of you and your children.

Serving you in Christ,
Rebecca Whitecotton

"Can I serve the next guest?"
This is the first thing I heard from the cashier at the local Chick-fil-a restaurant when I walked in to get some lunch. I just moved here from Michigan at the beginning of July and there was no Chick-fil-a in the area I use to lived. In fact, you would have to travel over an hour to get to one from my previous address. However, the service is almost always like that no matter what Chick-fil-a restaurant you enter. They have developed a tremendous reputation due to how they treat their customers and I think that Christians can learn from them in how we greet and treat people.
After hearing the cashier, I started reflecting on how I want this kind of attitude in my own life, especially in my role as SCCS's new Logic/Rhetoric Principal. I believe it is a reflection of Christ to strive to serve.
I have served in several capacities over the years. I served as an associate pastor in the past, I have served overseas as a missionary, and I have served in three different Christian schools in various capacities before coming to SCCS. Most recently, I have spent the past six years in Michigan as a principal/head of school. Two of the school's I served in have been classical and I am excited to get back to a classical setting.
I love students, love teachers, love education and most importantly love the Lord! I am excited to be here at SCCS and look forward to striving after making SCCS even better than it is, especially when it comes to integrating all subjects from a biblical worldview using classical pedagogy.
In my new role at SCCS and in the spirit of the Biblical fashion Chick-fil-a trains their employees, my question to you is, "How can I serve you?" I stand eager and ready to do so and look forward to the school year ahead of us.

Todd Zimmerman
