Head of the School Corner

"I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it;  for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name." Rev 3:8 (NKJV)

Welcome back to school! I hope that all had a restful and relaxing fall break!  We come back recognizing that the Lord has opened a door for us and that he is watching over us. This next quarter will be busy and will have many activities. Please pray that the planning for the our new buildings will be completed soon and that we can break ground on the new property as soon as possible. I believe the Lord sees what we are doing and will continue to open doors for us!  We just have to persevere, keep His word, and proclaim His name for the glory of God.

Dr. Marshall

From the Grammar School Principal

Dear SCCS Parents,

Word of Encouragement:

Psalm 34:11-14

"Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.  Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.  Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it."

Welcome to the 2 nd Quarter of the 2017/2018 school year.  We are not yet done celebrating the 1 st quarter though.   On Friday, October 16th we will hold our 1 st Quarter Awards Ceremony.  We will honor those students who have received all A's for the quarter and those students who have been awarded the Fruit of the Spirit Award.  We are doing something new this year and will be honoring a teacher from each campus who has displayed the qualities of the Fruit of the Spirit and a staff/faculty member who has shown a Servant's Heart.

Penn Ave. Awards Ceremony will be for the 3 rd-5 th grade students in the Multipurpose Room.  We will begin at 8:15 and end at 8:45.  K-2 nd graders will be given their awards in their classroom.  Contact your classroom teacher for the specific time if you would like to watch.  After the ceremony we will all go outside and the top winner of the Booster-Thon will get a chance to throw a pie at Dr. Marshall!  Penn Ave. campus dismissal will be at 11:45.

Don't forget about the Sports Banquet held for those 5 th-12 th graders who played in Fall Sports.  It will be held on Tuesday, October 17 at 11:45-12:45 over at St. Anthony's campus.  Students will need to provide their own lunch.

We have a couple of new families joining us at the start of the Quarter.  There is a new Kindergarten family and a family with a second and third grader.  Please welcome them to our family and lend a helping hand in helping them get settled.

Please remember that my door is always open for you to come in and talk with me about anything.

Serving you in Christ,
Rebecca Whitecotton
Grammar Principal

Picture orders are due by Friday October 20th . Please turn in your filled out forms with your payment to your teacher.

From the Principal's Pen

For the next two weeks, I am asking that parents of grades 6 th through 12 th to monitor and record how long it is taking your child to do their homework each night.  (Record studying for tests separately.)  I would ask that you give this a fair assessment, since some students may "dilly-dally" in doing their work, which does not truly give an accurate picture of the workload.  I want our teachers to be balanced in the amount of work they give the students, so this feedback is vitally important for me in my assessment.  Upon completion, these forms should be returned to the Logic/Rhetoric School office.
Thank you, Mr. Todd Zimmerman, Upper School Principal
