Jesus said: “Be not afraid. I am with you always.” (Mt. 28:10, 20)

Dear SCCS Families,
“ I am with you always” (Mt. 28:20). We may ask ourselves why these words of our Lord are important, what they have to do with a school, beginning a school year, and/or bringing children back to a school during the COVID-19 pandemic. The answer—EVERYTHING! The Lord made us, “knitting you in your mother’s womb” (Ps. 139), and He awaits us. Everything in between is our opportunity to receive His love. When we rest in and on His heart, it is then that we know the fullness of joy. This is what we want for our children isn’t it? Yes, the fullness of joy, happiness! It is also what we want for ourselves. At. St. Croix Catholic, you are giving your child(ren) the opportunity to be formed intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, and socially by Him, for Him, and in Him. This truth should bring us great peace. Who knows our children’s strengths, weaknesses, and potential better than the Lord Jesus! Because all things begin and end in Him at SCCS, we can claim striving for the truest and fullest kind of excellence, it is rooted in the all-loving, perfect One.
Thanks be to Him Who is always with us and guides us in forming scholars, disciples, and servant leaders for this kingdom and the next! We can hardly wait to see our SCCS families and our sweet children! In the meantime, as always, let us pray for one another.
May God bless you as Our Lady, cause of our joy, keeps you!
In Christ,
Sister Maria Ivana

SCCS Opens a Second Section of Kindergarten,
Welcome Ms. Vagasky!
|
|
SCCS recently began a search for a Kindergarten teacher upon deciding to open a second section of Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. We are happy to share that Ms. Lillian Vagasky will be joining Mrs. Berry in teaching our Kindergarteners!
Ms. Vagasky grew up in Red Wing, Minnesota and attended St. Mary’s University of Minnesota where she graduated with a degree in elementary education. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and going for walks and bike rides. Ms. Vagasky has spent the last few years serving as the school age teacher at New Horizon Academy as well as working as a Kindergarten through Third Grade literacy tutor through Minnesota Reading Corps. She is excited to be at SCCS and looks forward to getting to know our community.
Kindergarten parents, keep your eyes open for a Constant Contact from Mrs. Berry and Ms. Vagasky that will lay out how the school day will be structured for our Kindergarteners!
We have a few spots available in our Kindergarten, even with ensuring six feet of physical distancing with our little ones. If you know of any families looking for a Kindergarten, please refer them to the Admissions page on our website.

Welcome Mrs. Lucas, Health & Safety Coordinator
|
As we continue to move from the planning to the implementation phase of our Pandemic Preparedness Readiness Plan (PPRP), we are pleased to introduce Mrs. Jennifer Lucas, our new Health & Safety Coordinator.
Mrs. Lucas will be on-site each day to carry out the PPRP, including but not limited to ensuring proper implementation of mitigation strategies, training staff and educating students on proper hand washing and mask etiquette, communicating with families, monitoring and auditing cleaning and disinfecting throughout the school, and working in collaboration with stat and local health departments.
Mrs. Lucas moved to Minnesota from Colorado in 2016 with her husband and daughter. While in Colorado, she worked in the Public Health Department at Peterson Air Force Base. She attended St. Catherine University in St. Paul and obtained a Bachelor's in Public Health. Mrs. Lucas looks forward to working with the students and parents of SCCS toward the goal of a safe 2020-2021 school year for all.

One more reminder to come and see the school building and classroom before our first day of school, bring in your school supplies, say ‘hello’ to your homeroom/advisory teacher, see a few friends, AND (for moms and dads)- fill out some paperwork!
If you haven’t already signed up, here’s your chance! Sign up to see each child’s homeroom/advisory (15 minute sessions with three families being welcome to sign up per session). Like Parent-Teacher Conferences, after 15 minutes, families will be directed to move to the next classroom. In order to prevent crowding and allow for physical distancing in hallways and classroom, we would ask that the families travel in groups of no more than three.
TRAFFIC FLOW REMINDER:
All parents and students should enter the building from the back parking lot, through the Social Hall doors. Volunteers will be available to direct parents and students to homerooms/advisories.
Parents are asked to exit the building through the gym doors.
Parents are asked to plan on arriving 15 minutes before their first session OR to allow for 15 minutes after their last session in order to complete required paperwork before leaving school. Tables will be set up in the Social Hall and Gym.
NOTE:
Kindergarten visits/mini-assessments will take place during this time. If you have additional SCCS students, please make your “Kindergarten Session” your first stop in order to allow for the maximum time for one-on-one visits with Mrs. Berry.

Health Screens for WELCOME WEEK
|
As with each school day, we ask parents to perform a health screen from home for each adult and child who will be attending Welcome Week at SCCS.
Here are the details:
Screen daily for symptoms consistent with COVID-19, including:
- A new onset of cough or shortness of breath
OR at least 2 of the following:
- Fever of 100.0 degrees or higher
- Chills
- Muscle pain
- Sore throat
- Loss of sense of smell or taste
- Gastrointestinal symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, or nausea
If a person has a new symptom (for example, new loss of smell only) with no other diagnosis to explain it, they should stay home and talk to their health care provider about testing for COVID-19, even if it is the only symptom they are experiencing.
