SCMS Cougar Band Holiday Concert

The Sullivan Central Cougar Band performed their annual Holiday Concert for SCMS students, faculty, and staff on Tuesday, December 5. Later that evening, they performed again for friends and family. The band's selections ranged from classic holiday tunes and carols to popular hits and even a piece titled Santa the Barbarian! One of the 6th grade band pieces, iJingle, had the audience accompany them by playing sleigh bells using an app on their phones. The 7th and 8th grade band concluded the program with an audience sing-along encore performance of All I Want for Christmas is You with a special appearance by Dr. Fields as Santa!

SEHS Teachers Awarded Simply Smart Grant

Congratulations to Michael Sheffield, Cheri Fogleman, and Kim Lundin for being awarded the Simply Smart Grant this year. Their work with alternative energy to make their program more efficient and open the door to new opportunities for their students.

BCE 2nd Graders Published Authors

Second graders at Bluff City Elementary have been hard at work learning to write personal narratives. They learned about the entire writing process from planning to publishing as they wrote their own class book, "When We Grow Up". We are very proud of our published authors!

Storytime at Ketron Elementary

At the beginning of the school year, third grade students told stories by writing about assigned various topics. Now Mrs. Cox is introducing the art of oral storytelling. Students were given puppets and told that they could use various items in the library to create or retell a story. One group decided to retell their own version of The Three Little Pigs. Another group told nonfiction facts about their animal puppets. There were fiction stories, as well as a story that included puppets trying to get to the North Pole to see Santa! While some of the students did write down their stories, most of the students told it by memory! Afterwards, students discussed dialogue, nonfiction vs. fiction, setting, characters, and the tradition of oral storytelling. Mrs. Cox, as always, is proud of her students for being so creative and never being afraid to be themselves in the library.

Showdown at Sullivan Gardens Elementary

Bubblegum Bart and the Candy Cane Kid came to a peaceful agreement at our annual 2nd and 3rd grade Christmas program. The students spread holiday cheer with their singing and fun portrayal of characters. They make us so proud! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the Sullivan Gardens crew!

The Grinch Surprises Rock Springs Elementary

The Grinch made a surprise visit to Rock Springs Elementary School this week to announce the winners of the school wide angel stones contest for PTA. Fourth grade celebrated the victory in a close competition amongst the grade levels. The students enjoyed their time with the Grinch!

SHMS Raise Their Voices

The Sullivan Heights 7th and 8th grade theater classes under the direction of Mr. Trevor Rumsey delivered 6 rousing performances of 14 Broadway Junior numbers from the spectrum of popular show tunes - nearly 65 students blended their talents to present this musical salute and all of the numbers were choreographed by the students - popular pieces included Step in Time from Mary Poppins, Consider Yourself from Oliver, Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid, We’re All in This Together from High School Musical and of course from the musical Sister Act - Raise Your Voice - way to go Musical Dramatic Huskies!!!

RSE Students Participate in "Books Are Fun" Book Blast

Some fifth and second grade students at Rock Springs Elementary found their calling! They were selected to participate in a focus group for a "Books Are Fun" Book Blast. They used their evaluating and higher order thinking skills to rank toys that may be used as incentives and prizes for the Books Are Fun Book Blasts events. Our students did a great job asking questions and writing comments for the company to use. Special thanks to former Rock Springs teacher Shelby Marlow for bringing this opportunity to our students! They were even rewarded for their work with a set of "Flippin' Chickens".
