Walk to End Alzheimer's November 8, 2025

by Sherry Peterson

The Alzheimer’s Dementia Rotary Action Group is a National Team for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s. As a National Team, Rotary Clubs across the country participate in Walks to End Alzheimer’s. Last year 278 teams raised a total of $520,686.

The Greater Richmond Chapter’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held November 8 at City Stadium. Funds raised through the Walk help the Chapter provide much needed services such as 24/7 Helpline, Care Consultation, Educational Programs, Support Groups, and Safety Programs to those with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers, and support research to End Alzheimer’s.

I have registered to walk this year and have registered a Rotary Club of Richmond team. To register or donate to either the team or me, go to alz.org/walk and click on Find A Team and put in Rotary Club of Richmond. I can also take checks made out to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Thank you for your support. Together we will End Alzheimer’s!

Project Warm

Did you know Project Warm is celebrating 49 years of service?

Started in 1979, Project Warn volunteers have split wood at the wood lot and delivered wood to individuals who depend on wood only for their heat source.

Since 1994, Project Warm volunteers have traveled 33,000+ miles and have made deliveries to 8,000+ individuals!

All those deliveries today would fill an equivalent of 4,000+ full size pick up trucks with 2100 cords of wood, an estimated worth of $682,662 in today's market!

Contact Joe Kelleher via email with questions or if you know of a good lead!

Let's continue to make an impact for another 49 years.

Bill Street, President & CEO James River Association

"The State of the James"

Bill was born in Richmond, Virginia and grew up camping at the mountain headwaters of the James River and spending summers on the Chesapeake Bay. As a child, he remembers following his father as he waded into lush underwater grass beds dipping for soft shell crabs. But by the time he came of age to dip for crabs, those vital grass beds were gone - wiped out by pollution. Now with two sons of his own, Bill’s personal mission is to ensure that his sons enjoy healthy Virginia waters.

Bill joined the James River Association in 2005. Since that time the organization has made significant progress, not only in the programs they have implemented but also in the river itself.

Prior to serving as CEO of the James River Association, Bill worked for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, as well as an environmental consulting firm, Malcolm Pirnie, in Newport News, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Duke University Wetland Center, and the Institute for Environmental Negotiation at the University of Virginia.

Bill is a double Hoo and a Dukie too with degrees in Commerce and Urban and Environmental Planning from Virginia and Environmental Management from Duke.
