Leaf Raking For Seniors Recap

Our annual Leaf Raking for Seniors event was an inspiring success, and we owe it all to our diligent and dedicated volunteers! On November 10th and November 25th, 210 volunteers served 21 Seniors across Woburn. Among the volunteers, there were 58 Haitian migrants who wanted to give back to the community. Throughout the two leaf raking days, hundreds of bags were filled with leaves. One of the houses had as many as 65 leaf bags!

SCI organizes this annual leaf raking project in partnership with the Woburn Council On Aging and Woburn Senior Center. A diverse range of Woburn residents participate. Volunteers are drawn from school clubs, youth sports teams, scouting groups, and local businesses. Many families with young children volunteer, providing a chance to teach their kids about the importance of service. The project began in 2015.

Leaders For An Equitable Tomorrow (LET) December Holiday Social

It was a festive evening at the Woburn Public Library's teen room, where the SCI Leaders For An Equitable Tomorrow (LET) hosted their December Holiday Social! Teens enjoyed a variety of local Woburn food and were grouped into teams for a 30-minute gingerbread house competition. From Santa stuck on the gingerbread roof to a gingerbread campsite, each team was very creative and resourceful!

Everyone received SCI swag as prizes and left the event with wellness goodie bags featuring fidget toys and resources promoting positive mental health.

The LET program is a joint initiative of SCI and Network for Social Justice (NFSJ) that seeks to advance mental health awareness and engagement among youth within, and beyond, Winchester and Woburn through a focus on the intersection of mental health, race, and identity. Funding for LET is provided by Winchester Hospital Community Benefits.

Snow Shoveling For Seniors

As the weather gets colder and our days get shorter, we eagerly anticipate the fall of snow. SCI is excited to announce that we will be hosting our annual Snow Shoveling for Seniors event this winter! Many of our local Woburn Seniors will need help clearing the snow from their walkways for safe passage to and from their homes. We are seeking volunteers of all ages to come together to aid our local Seniors and make their winter season a little brighter. Not only is this an excellent opportunity to actively contribute to our Woburn community, but you can also earn YES hours!

Volunteers will be on-call to serve their Senior neighbors within 24 hours of snowfall. We kindly request that you complete our interest form.
