SCICU celebrates Black History Month and salutes its five member HBCUs
SCICU celebrated the achievements and contributions of its five member HBCUs with a Feb. 16 infographic sent to all members of the S.C. General Assembly, along with Facebook and Twitter posts.

Recognizing the strengths and myriad contributions of South Carolina’s eight historically Black colleges and universities, Gov. Henry McMaster signed into law House Bill 4576, which designates the third Tuesday in February as “Historically Black Colleges and Universities Day. (“S.C. HBCU Day”).

A friend of mine is fond of saying, “I can predict everything but the future,” but that is just what our campus leaders are called upon to do. Colleges and universities are in the business of preparing students for the challenges they will face. But what will those challenges be?

S.C. Chamber President and CEO Bob Morgan will be the keynote speaker for the SCICU Spring Board Meeting on March 10. Bob Jones University, SCICU’s newest member institution, will host SCICU’s return to in-person board meetings — the first since February 2020.

Project topics ranged from biology, chemistry, and public health to research specific to the flora, fauna, and cultural heritage of Hobcaw Barony in Georgetown County, S.C.
