Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As the fall semester begins across our SCICU member institutions, campuses are once again alive with the energy and promise of a new academic year. Students are returning, faculty are preparing, and the timeless rhythm of learning and discovery resumes. It is an exciting time—one filled with hope, ambition, and the enduring spirit of higher education.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Erskine College, where I witnessed firsthand the joy and connection that define the college experience. With record enrollment this year, Erskine’s campus was buzzing with students warmly greeting one another and engaging with faculty and staff. I was especially moved by the way students greeted President Steven Adamson—not just with respect, but with genuine warmth and familiarity. It was a powerful reminder that, despite the many changes in our sector, the heart of higher education remains unchanged: people coming together to learn, grow, and build community.
At the same time, we recognize that the landscape of higher education continues to shift. The federal government has enacted a series of laws, executive orders, and policy guidance that have significantly impacted how colleges and universities operate.
SCICU, in collaboration with our partners, has been vigilant in tracking these developments. We remain committed to supporting our member institutions by providing timely information, strategic guidance, and a strong voice in policy discussions. Whether it is regulatory compliance, financial aid reform, or institutional autonomy, we are here to help our colleges navigate the complexities and advocate for their unique missions.
Yes, there is change. But as my visit to Erskine so clearly demonstrated, there is also continuity. The ancient rhythm of students and faculty coming together—of minds meeting, ideas sparking, and lives transforming—endures. It is this rhythm that gives our work meaning and keeps us moving forward.
