SCICU Life Trustee Minor Mickel Shaw keynotes Oct. 13 board luncheon
SCICU Life Trustee Minor Mickel Shaw, a lifelong supporter of independent higher education, was the keynote speaker for SCICU's Oct. 13 board luncheon.

Shaw shared her personal journey with independent higher education and her family's support of needs-based aid programs, including the S.C. Tuition Grants program.

Shaw and her family have supported SCICU and its member institutions for almost all of SCICU's nearly 70 years of advocacy. That dedication was celebrated last spring when SCICU nominated Shaw for and the Council of Independent College's (CIC) awarded her the Charles W. L. Foreman Award, the highest CIC national honor given annually for distinguished service to independent higher education.

Jonathan Wright, a Newberry College senior and Tuition Grants recipient double majoring in accounting and criminal justice, is the 2022 McLean-Smith SCICU Student of the Year. The award was announced at the SCICU Board of Trustees meeting Oct. 13 hosted by Benedict College.

SCICU elects five new trustees and re-elects its board chair and chair-elect at Oct. 13 board meeting
SCICU welcomed five new trustees to its board at the Oct. 13 board meeting. The new board members represent diverse South Carolina industries ranging from global manufacturing and chemicals to financial services.

The SCICU board also re-elected Lucy Grey McIver, deputy general counsel for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, as its chair.
