Monday, April 21 - Today, Assemblymember Greg Wallis (R-Bermuda Dunes) invited Social Compassion in Legislation to testify in support of his AB 691, which will give a tax credit in the amount of $500 for veterinary medical expenses and $250 for any adoption fees charged by an animal shelter. A taxpayer may only take advantage of the tax credits once in their lifetime.
The bill was heard in the Committee on Revenue and Taxation, but was sent to a special "suspense" file, which will be voted on at a later date. We believe that the Committee members are supportive of the goal, but whether they are able to support the funding needed for this bill will not be known until they vote on the special "suspense" file.
AB 691 is an author-sponsored bill. We were honored to be asked by Assemblymember Wallis to be a primary witness in support of his bill.
