Sloan Creek Parents,
I would like to thank our 5th grade parents for a strong showing to our curriculum night last Tuesday. It was great to see over 200 parents here to learn more about what your children will learn this year in 5th grade. I am looking forward to seeing our 6th grade parents this Tuesday for a chance to talk to you about how we implement Pre-AP for each child in 6th Grade. We hope you will be able to find time to join us!

SCIS Gives Back:
We are excited announce a wonderful opportunity for SCIS to give back to our previous counselor, Kelly George who is now at Town East Elementary in Houston. We spoke to Kelly today and her kids returned to school with much excitement and worry about the next few days, weeks and months.
She is so thankful that we will be helping with some of the basic things her students and staff need. First and foremost, the kids need undergarments:
- New, packaged underwear and socks in all sizes.
- They are in need of Mosquito repellent
- Books for students in grades Kinder-6th grade.
The kiddos are also asking about books. Because of the humidity and the amount of rain, all of the classroom libraries and home libraries were destroyed. So let's send new or gently used books to the teachers and kids!!!
We will be collecting items Thursday to Thursday. September 14-21. Can't wait to see what blessings we will be able to share with our sister school.
New Lunch Procedures:
Our students have done a great job at Free Choice Friday Lunch. They are ready to make a decision on whether to eat first or go to recess first. Please encourage them to talk to their friends and come up with a plan. This Friday, September 15th will be a trial run. They can see if their plan worked or if they need to make changes. On Wednesday, the 20th each student will submit a response in a Google Form during their English Class. They will pick whether they want to eat first or go to recess. There are limited spots in each option. Their first day for their "Google Form" Lunch will be Monday, September 25th.

The PowerSchool ParentPortal is open for you to complete the online Enrollment & Student Information Forms. Please

. Completion of these forms is required every year for every student. Please take a few minutes to update your contact information, emergency contacts, authorized pickup, FERPA acknowledgments, Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, etc.

In order for your child's picture to appear in the Yearbook, you should answer "YES".

The cost for camp includes 2 nights lodging, transportation and all food. Parent volunteers are required to pay this amount as well. You may pay in one payment or several smaller payments.
All chaperone payments must be made in full by Friday, September 22nd.

Yearbook Club
The SCIS Yearbook Club is looking for hard-working, creative leaders to publish the 2016-2017 SCIS Yearbook. We are looking for 20 sixth grade leaders and 5 fifth grade leaders in-training who are committed to making this year's yearbook the best ever.
Members of the club will be responsible for:
- using our yearbook software
- taking photos
- identifying students and tagging photos
- interviewing students
- creating layouts
- spreading news about yearbook sales

Foundation for Lovejoy Schools
North Texas Giving Day
The Foundation for Lovejoy School's Annual Appeal, #WeLoveLovejoy, is underway. Our goal is to receive donations from 650 donors totaling $200,000. The Foundation Board of Directors asks you to join them in giving to the Foundation on North Texas Giving Day, Thursday, September 14th, from 6:00 AM - midnight.
New This Year: Scheduled Giving
If you are unable to give on September 14th, you may schedule your gift between September 7th and 13th.

Leopard Friday: September 22
The Lovejoy Independent School District will host a free community event on September 22nd from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Leopard Friday.
On Leopard Friday, the Courtyard at Lovejoy High School will be transformed into a showcase of our students, clubs, community, and organizations. There truly is something for everyone:
- Face painting
- Candy and tattoo prizes
- Cotton candy and popcorn
- Instrument "petting zoo"
- Try out multiple sports
- Spirit wear for purchase
- And much more
We will end the event with a community pep rally at 6:30 PM in the LHS Courtyard. All Leopard fans will be invited onto the field to form a spirit line prior to kick off.
A BBQ dinner will be catered by Sonny Bryan's. Tickets may be purchased via the Online Payment Center, or at the LHS school store. The ticket order deadline is September 20, 2017. A small number of tickets will be sold at the door.
Hurricane Relief
In light of the devastation caused by Harvey, Anthony Tang (LHS Senior) is leading the way to help those affected by the hurricane. From sorting toothbrushes to organizing fundraising drives in the district, Anthony has been doing anything he can to help the cause.
Anthony, a senior at Lovejoy High, first learned of the traumatic impacts of the storm when he contacted a childhood friend who lives in Houston. "My buddy's family was fortunately not severely affected because his house is on higher ground, but many other houses in surrounding neighborhoods were flooded and ruined. I can't imagine the troubles those families are facing, but I want to help in any way I can." Anthony has reached out and partnered with Trusted World and Salvation Army and has delivered boxes of donations to be transported from their warehouses. "It makes me smile to see how genuinely cooperative people are in this time of need. Everyone I have worked with seems so willing to help."
Anthony is requesting the help of fellow Leopards. There is a need for clothes and shoes, especially for youth. Other supplies in need include Adult X-Large T-Shirts and undergarments, as well as Women's Sports-bras. If you wish to donate supplies or help pack donations to support this cause, please contact Anthony at:
Friends of Fairview Firefighters Association Community Pancake Breakfast: October 21
Gifted and Talented Meet & Greet: September 28
The Lovejoy Gifted Association will host an informal Meet and Greet on Thursday, September 28th from 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM in the Board Room of the Lovejoy ISD Administration Building, 259 Country Club Road, Allen, TX 75002. Please join us for a "light" breakfast and coffee and to learn more about the Gifted and Talented program at LISD, as well as The Lovejoy Gifted Association. This is an opportunity to meet Brie Smith (LISD Director of Advanced Academics), Kari Lockhart (LISD Advanced Academics Coordinator), and other GT parents. BYOP® (Volleyball Fall Session): Pre-registration ends October 2
BYOP® Program Overview: This training program is designed for any volleyball player, no matter what skill or ability level, as long as their goal is to become the best they can be. Parents must be fully dedicated to being actively involved in this program. BYOP® will provide excellent volleyball fundamental skills training, as well as life lessons to both player and parent.
BYOP® Program Details: Each training session will build upon a solid foundation of all fundamental skills needed to participate in the sport of volleyball. Parents must be engaged in every training session and involved in the home training program involving physical and skills activities.

The Lovejoy ISD Children's Choir, directed by the Lovejoy ISD Elementary Music Specialists, is desigLovejoy Children's Choir - 4TH, 5TH, 6TH Gradersned to serve the needs of our district's 4th, 5th and 6th grade students who are committed to a musically exceptional experience. Auditions will be held for any and all LISD 4th, 5th and 6th grade students interested in participating. Returning members do not need to audition.

Evening with the Majestics: October 13, 2017
The annual Evening with the Majestics will be Friday, October 13th. All Lovejoy ISD students in grades K-6 are invited to join the Majestics as we celebrate Homecoming. "Mini Majestics" (grades K-4) and "Majestics in Training" (grades 5-6) will perform the pre-game Fight Song in the Victory Lines on the field, and will then sit with the Majestics and participate in "stand routines" in the bleachers.

The system we use for phone calls and email communications for information such as school closings due to inclement weather. SchoolMessenger will be configured to send text messages to your wireless phone number(s), with your approval. Please confirm we have your accurate wireless phone number in the PowerSchool Parent Portal and then opt-in to participate by following the directions below.
In order to receive messages from Lovejoy ISD or your student's school via SMS text we must have your wireless number(s) in SchoolMessenger and receive an "Opt-In Confirmation" from your wireless device.
You can easily opt-in by simply sending "Y" (or "Yes"), via text message, to our SchoolMessenger Short Code number 67587.
The wireless number(s) you enter into the PowerSchool Parent Portal are updated nightly. If you update your wireless number, or add a new number, in the PowerSchool Parent Portal, the new number will automatically be sent an Opt-In message.

Kids 1st After School Program

Lovejoy ISD Pre-Kindergarten
Registration for the Lovejoy ISD Pre-Kindergarten program is now open. If you have a child who will be 4 years of age by September 1, 2017, you may now register him or her in this tuition-based program.

We are looking forward to offering this new program featuring credentialed teachers who will provide a developmentally appropriate experience which will prepare our four year olds for Kindergarten. We fully recognize a Pre-K program must be highly engaging and allow our children to explore their creativity. Enrichment opportunities in Art, Music, Library, and Fitness, as well as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) will be provided each week. We are enthusiastic about this opportunity to provide a Lovejoy education for your youngest Leopards at Puster. The Pre-K students will experience a rich learning environment which will provide them with a firm foundation for their K-12 Lovejoy experience.

FERPA and General Waivers
This must be done again every year via powerschool,
It is, once again, time to complete the FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and General Waiver forms electronically. Also, please take the time to verify that all other required forms have been completed. You can find these forms on line by:
1. Go to the LISD Website .
2. Click on Parents,
3. Power School Parent Portal
4. Input your user name and password
5. You should now be in PowerSchool. Click on the blue "Click here to access the Enrollment Packet Forms or to update student information."
6. There are multiple forms you can click to update, but the required forms are the two on the bottom - "FERPA" and "General Waiver"

Student Absences
For your convenience when your student is absent, you may send an e-mail to our PEIMS clerk,
Lori Esser, that will serve as a parent note.You are also welcome to call us, but we will require something in writing as well to satisfy the requirement. If your child does receive a note from a doctor's visit, please do send that in as well.

The Online Volunteer Application for the 2017-2018 school year is now available. Please
click here access the application. Upon completion of the form, please be sure to click "Submit Application" located at the bottom of the page. You will receive a confirmation email that your application has been received. The online application is a secure link.
For the safety of our students, a criminal history record is obtained annually for every person interested in volunteering at an LISD campus.
