From The Nurse
Cold and Flu Season
Parents, As you may know flu cases in Texas have been on the rise. Here are a few reminders in an effort to stay healthy:
  • Please don't send your student to school if they have a fever of 100 or greater. They must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of ibuprofen of acetaminophen before they can return to school.
  • If your student has vomiting or diarrhea, they must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Common flu symptoms are: fever, chills, fatigue, stomach ache and headache (especially in children) and sore throat.
  • Handwashing and the flu vaccine are still the best prevention.
  • If you or your student have any flu-like symptoms, please stay home.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me: 469-742-8307

Thank you,
Nurse Pierce

Attention 6th grade parents:
There are two vaccinations required by the State of Texas for entry into the 7th grade. They are a Tdap (tetanus, diptheria and pertussis) booster and the Meningococcal vaccine. These vaccines are typically given at the 11 or 12 year old well child visit. If your student receives these two vaccines, please send a copy of the vaccination record to school with your student or fax it to 469-742-8401 . Your help is greatly appreciated, as it will make your transition to 7th grade much easier.

Lovejoy High School Music Theatre
Presents The Sound of Music

Climb every mountain, ford every stream, and follow every rainbow to Lovejoy High School to see Lovejoy High School Performing Arts' musical, The Sound of Music. The musical is considered one of the masterpieces of modern musical theatre and marked the culmination of the epic Rodgers and Hammerstein collaboration. It will be presented January 18th - 20th at 7:00 PM in the Lovejoy High School Auditorium.

Based on a true story in 1938 at the town of Salzburg, Austria, The Sound of Music is a story of love, family, and a life with music. Maria (played by Senior, Hannah Hansen), a young postulant, is too high-spirited for the religious life of a nun, so she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of the widowed Captain von Trapp (Senior, Jack Supan), a family that Maria slowly begins to fill with joy, laughter, and music.

The Sound of Music is a show for everyone, and includes beautiful inspirational music and characters whom audiences will adore, such as Captain von Trapp's "wealthy and sophisticated" would-be fiancée Baroness Elsa Schräder (Senior, Raegan Vaughn); the von Trapp children: Liesl (Junior, Marcie Sawyers), Friedrich (Willow Springs 8th Grader, Aidan Abramson), Louisa (Freshman, Grace Felton), Brigitta (Freshman, Catherine O'Brien), Kurt (Sloan Creek 5th Grader, Brock Bernal), Marta (Sloan Creek 5th Grader, Rachel Dobbs), and Gretl (Puster Elementary 4th Grader, Sophie Brooks); as well as Captain von Trapp's great friend and music producer Max Detweiler (Sophomore, Zachary Joyner).

The Sound of Music offers beloved and iconic songs such as "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," "Edelweiss," and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," filling the show and audience with both heart-warming and heart-wrenching emotion for this timeless classic.

Tickets are $12 for students, seniors, and staff, and $16 for adults. Tickets may be purchased by clicking here.

This inspirational musical will become one of your "Favorite Things!" Be sure to see the show at the Lovejoy High School Auditorium.

We are looking forward to offering this new program featuring credentialed teachers who will provide a developmentally appropriate experience which will prepare our four year olds for Kindergarten.  We fully recognize a Pre-K program must be highly engaging and allow our children to explore their creativity. Enrichment opportunities in Art, Music, Library, and Fitness, as well as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) will be provided each week.  We are enthusiastic about this opportunity to provide a Lovejoy education for your youngest Leopards at Puster.  The Pre-K students will experience a rich learning environment which will provide them with a firm foundation for their K-12 Lovejoy experience.

The fee will be increasing from $1.95 per payment to $2.49 per payment and will be effective as of December 11, 2017. This increase is the result of an increase in card scheme fees. SCIS Reminders
Dear SCIS Parents,

We want to alert you that there has been one or more cases of head lice at SICS over the last few months.  If there is a concern with your child, our school nurse will contact you directly.  If you need additional information and resources, you may visit the CDC's website at the following link:  https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/index.html

Moreover, you may review the District's procedures for head lice on page 42 of the 2017-2018 Student Handbook, which states, in relevant part:

" If careful observation indicates a student has head lice, the school nurse will contact the student's parent to determine whether the child will need to be picked up from school, and to discuss a plan for treatment with FDA-approved medicated shampoo or cream rinse which may be purchased from any drug or grocery store. After the student has undergone one treatment, the parent should check in with the school nurse to discuss the treatment used. The nurse can also offer additional recommendations, including subsequent treatments and how to best get rid of lice and prevent their return."

Below is the link to the Handbook for your reference:

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
