Valentines at SCIS
To help our students manage valentines day in a healthy way at the intermediate level, we downplay valentines day and work to have a normal day of school.  We ask that students do not send flower arrangements/ oversized teddy bears/balloons to school.  At the intermediate level teachers do not have their classes exchange cards or notes, but if individial kids want to exchange small valentines notes during lunch that is permitted.  Reach out to Mr. Winkler if you have any questions.

Academic UIL Information Meetings and Try Outs:
We will begin UIL tryouts this week. Please check the Sloan Creek website for UIL information.  There is a note to parents, a list of contest descriptions and coaches, and a conflict pattern.  Students can tryout for as many areas as they want. However, since students cannot participate in any overlapping events on competition day, they will need to use the conflict pattern to determine which events they want to be apart of once they know what teams they have made.  The website also has a calendar that has tryout times and locations.  Please make sure to regularly check the calendar for any changes that might occur.

Here is the listing of Academic UIL Tryouts

4th Grade Parent Information Meetings
Two parent informational meetings have been scheduled for you to learn more about SCIS. You only need to attend one meeting as the same information will be presented  at both.

Feb 01  at 9:00 am SCIS Cafeteria

Information regarding REMIND if you are a Verizon customer: REMIND users with Verizon as their carrier:  Recently, we learned that Verizon will be charging Remind a new fee that makes it impossible for them to continue supporting free text messaging for anyone who has Verizon Wireless as their phone carrier.
How does this affect you?
Unfortunately, because of the fees, Verizon Wireless users will no longer receive text notifications for Remind messages beginning Monday, January 28.  What can you do? To make sure you continue receiving Remind messages, please take a minute now to  download the mobile app or  enable email notifications-both of which are free of charge.

District News
Lovejoy Offers Group Counseling
Lovejoy is offering group counseling for students for a variety of areas. The groups will meet weekly, during school hours, and will be facilitated by Lovejoy's Social Worker, Noelle Gove, LCSW. The overall goal of the counseling groups is to address student's social/emotional needs that may be impacting their experience and success at school. Groups are being offered, based on need, to every campus in the district, grades K-12.
If you are interested in your student participating in a group, please  click here to complete the interest form. Noelle Gove will be in contact with parents regarding further details of the group and to obtain consent for student participation. This form is not a consent for counseling, but rather a survey of interest.
