Attendance Funding:
As a reminder, Lovejoy ISD has learned from the Texas Education Agency that districts will be eligible for "Hold Harmless" state aid funding in the Spring Semester based on on-campus attendance participation rates during the last 6-weeks of school. We need your help to get our full funding. If your child is signed up for on-campus instruction learning during Q4, please make sure they are present every day on campus unless they are officially quarantined or are absent for other valid reasons such as illness or doctor's appointments. When reviewing your student’s attendance in PowerSchool you will see the designation “PF” for Present Face-to-Face or “PS” for Present Synchronously (virtually).
Not Returning to LISD Next Year?
If your student will not be returning to WSMS or Lovejoy High School for the 2021-2022 school year, please email Lori Esser with your student’s name, as well as complete and return this form.
Above and Beyond Awards:
At Sloan Creek, we know EVERY staff member goes above and beyond, though we may not always hear about it. Who are our unsung heroes? Has a SCIS teacher or staff member gone above and beyond for your child/family? We want to hear about it! Parents, community members, staff members and students are welcome to share.
Glen Miller: My daughter had to miss quite a bit of school due to a surgery she needed. Leading up to that date she was sick a lot. Mr. Miller always checked in to see that she was doing well. In addition to this he has turned math into her favorite subject. She once struggles with math and now says she loves math and Mr. Miller. Thank you to Mr. Miller for being an inspirational teacher!
Vicki Turner: My son, Colby had an unusual medical emergency during Ms. Turner's class. Ms. Turner was quick to recognize something was wrong with my son and took swift actions. Her communications with me and detailed observations during this event were instrumental in helping my son get the medical attention he needed quickly. Her intuition and concern for my child show how well she knows each of our kids and how much she is invested not just in their education but also in their well being and as individuals. I doubt a teacher not as invested in their students would have recognized the subtle differences my son was displaying as something of concern. We are forever grateful for Ms. Turner's and so happy she has been our son's teacher this year!
Mr. Winkler

Growth and Development
Dear 5th grade Parents/Guardians:
As part of the health curriculum, we will provide a link to the Always Changing film on Human Growth and Development. Due to social distancing requirements, we will not be showing the puberty videos at school.
As the parent/guardian, you have the most important role in teaching your child about their growth and development. We encourage you to preview the video and learn more about how to talk to your child. https://www.pgschoolprograms.com/Parents Scroll down to view the Always Changing-Boys or Always Changing-Girls (not the original version). Once you have viewed it you can watch it with your child. Please take this opportunity to talk openly with your child.
Immunizations
Early reminder to parents of students that will be 7th graders during the 2021-2022 school year:
It is a State requirement that all 7th grade students must have had 2 required updated immunizations in order to attend school. These required immunizations are, TDaP booster (Tetanus booster) and Menactra (Meningococcal). Please obtain a copy of your child’s updated shots and provide it to our school nurse, Gretchen Young, BEFORE August 9th, 2021. You may drop it off in person, send it through the mail to Willow Springs Middle School, 1101 West Lucas Road, Lucas, TX 75002, by email to Gretchen Young or fax at 469-742-8501.
Medications
If your child has medicine at school, please make sure your child has exactly enough medicine to finish the school year. You are responsible for picking up any extra medicine as the school district has a policy against sending medicines home with students. At the end of this school year, any remaining medicines, including inhalers, will be thrown out. The school cannot store these for you during the summer.
Stay safe and healthy,
Michelle Countryman, RN
