Above and Beyond Awards:
At Sloan Creek, we know EVERY staff member goes above and beyond, though we may not always hear about it. Who are our unsung heroes? Has a SCIS teacher or staff member gone above and beyond for your child/family? We want to hear about it! Parents, community members, staff members and students are welcome to share.
Tammy Cooper: My daughter with dyslexia has always hated ELAR and struggled through it. Thanks to Mrs Cooper it is now my daughters favorite class and she is making an A! Mrs. Cooper’s kindness and passion for teaching has transformed my daughters confidence and skills.
Yazmine Topchik: She’s helped my daughter tremendously with her dyslexia. She makes it fun and my daughter really looks forward to working with her every day!

Dear Parent/Guardian of 5th grade girls:
SCIS will be conducting spinal screenings on April 21 & 22 during PE class.
State law requires that schools must screen students for abnormal spinal curvature. Trained screeners will check your child for signs of spinal problems like scoliosis.
Catching a spinal problem early can make the treatment much easier. Not treating spinal problems can lead to serious health problems.
The screening is simple. Screeners will look at your child’s back while she stands and bends forward.
Important Recommendations:
· Girls should wear a thin t-shirt or a sports bra or a two-piece swimsuit top underneath their shirt on exam day. (As well as shorts or pants, please no dresses on screening day).
The school will send you a letter if your child does not pass the screening. The letter will tell you how to follow up with a doctor.
This screening is not a medical exam. You child still needs to see a doctor for checkups.
If you do not wish to have your child screened notify the nurse no later than Friday, April 16th.
Stay safe and healthy,
Michelle Countryman, RN

Here is what she is looking for – submit up to 2 photos per SCIS student and choose from the list below:

- Student posing with a heart made out of something (Example: arrange rocks in shape of heart or legos, jenga blocks, etc)
Please email your photos to: [email protected]. Deadline for submission is: Sun 4/11 at 5pm

· Good lighting indoors or taken outside (not in direct sunlight)
· Neutral, non-distracting background
· Not blurry or grainy
· Can clearly see student’s face and sign is legible or heart gesture is prominent

5th Grade - Growth and Development Video
Dear 5th grade Parents/Guardians:
As part of the health curriculum, we will provide a link to the Always Changing film on Human Growth and Development. Due to social distancing requirements, we will not be showing the puberty videos at school.
As the parent/guardian, you have the most important role in teaching your child about their growth and development. We encourage you to preview the video and learn more about how to talk to your child. https://www.pgschoolprograms.com/Parents Scroll down to view the Always Changing-Boys or Always Changing-Girls (not the original version). Once you have viewed it you can watch it with your child. Please take this opportunity to talk openly with your child.
Sincerely,
Michelle Countryman
SCIS Nurse
