Hello Sloan Creek Families,
I hope you will watch the video summary posted above for more details about our peer leadership awards for this week.
Honoring Bethany McTee, Daughter of Mrs. McTee, 6th grade Science Teacher:
It has been week filled with sadness and grief but also togetherness and hope as our staff and students grieve the loss of McTee's daughter, Bethany.
We all process grief in different ways, please let us know if your child is needing additional support so our counselors can assist them.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the McTee family has asked that you consider making a donation in Bethany’s McTee's name to the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Medical Center Dallas by clicking the link below. Please indicate that your donation is “in memory of Bethany McTee.” Thank you for honoring Bethany’s life by donating to save the lives of others.
Above and Beyond Awards:
At Sloan Creek, we know EVERY staff member goes above and beyond, though we may not always hear about it. Who are our unsung heroes? Has a SCIS teacher or staff member gone above and beyond for your child/family? We want to hear about it! Parents, community members, staff members and students are welcome to share.
Kelsey Drummond: Ms. Drummond goes above and beyond every day for our remote learners. She understands that they have a different perspective of the classroom compared to face-to-face learners and works overtime ensuring that her virtual kids are engaged and heard in their virtual classroom. My child never has a sad day in her class and always has a smile on his face after class. I also love that she takes the time to do brain breaks - this is especially important for online learners who are sitting in front of a computer all day long (versus moving between classrooms). She definitely "begins with the end in mind" for these kiddos and constantly strives to see things from their perspective.

Grief Support - If you or a loved one are experiencing grief and loss below is an amazing source of support. Please feel free to reach out to them to learn more.
Welcome to Journey of Hope Grief Support Center
Journey of Hope Grief Support Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing group grief support to children, adolescents, and their parents or adult caregivers who have lost a loved one to death.
Journey of Hope offers these services in a warm, caring, and nurturing environment where the feelings of grief, pain, and loss may be expressed. Trained volunteer group facilitators lead participants in their personal journey toward healing and healthy reconciliation of their grief. Presently, our program is the only open-ended one that focuses on the needs of children and their families. Those we serve determine when to begin and how long to attend Journey of Hope.
Our current groups are the grief groups for families who have experienced a death and our anticipatory groups for families who have a loved one with an advanced serious illness. All groups are free and are meeting virtually at this time.
Thank you,
Kerri Newman, MS, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
