SCIS Parents, 

Happy Sunday Afternoon!  We are  so excited that we only have a little over two weeks left until the first day of school!  

We  hope you will take time to watch to the video above as it has our "Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)"  that parents want to know about the start of school at SCIS

Walk The Creek
Walk the Creek is the intermediate version of meet the teacher.  It provides students and parents an opportunity to find out the location of their classes and meet each of their teachers.  There will also be an opportunity to put money in your child's lunch account. 

5th Grade: Thursday, August 16th 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm (details next week)
6th Grade: Monday, August 13th 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm (come and go event)

**If you are new to Lovejoy ISD there will be a new student/parent mixer at 4:30 pm on the day that your grade level Walks the Creek.

Rock Solid Character
The 7 Habits of Success permission slip. Please complete and return to your teacher or the front office prior to Thursday, August 23rd.

How Do I Log into Powerschool:
To access the PowerSchool Parent Portal, you will navigate to Lovejoyisd.net. Click on Parents in the middle of the top portion of the screen, then on Parent Resources. Once the page loads, you may scroll near the bottom and under Information & Links, you will see the link for the PowerSchool Parent Portal. At the Portal page, please enter your username and password, if you have already created an account.
If you do not have an account, select the option to create an account. In order to complete this process, you will need the access ID and access password of your student. Typically, the access ID and access password for a student is set up in the following manner:
Access ID: FirstName_LastName
Access password: FLxxxx
(F = student's first initial, L=first letter of last name, xxxx = last 4 digits of student's SSN)

2018-2019 Bus Transportation
Welcome to the 2018-2019 Bus Transportation Year!  During the Summer, Transportation staff worked many hours on improving and modifying bus routes to better serve our riders and parents.  Once route modifications are complete,  and bus stop times/locations are ready to view, parents will be notified through School Messenger and Email Express.  On August 13th, PowerSchool will be open to parents and we ask that parents review the bus transportation section to verify their 2018-19 school bus choice is accurate. Instructions on how to access the PowerSchool transportation section is attached so parents can review and/or modify bus transportation needs.
 
We are excited about the new year and look forward to serving you.

Student Kudos
SCIS Choir
Rachel Dobbs, Sloan Creek sixth grader and Lovejoy Children's Choir member, performed with the TCDA (Texas Choral Director's Association) Elementary Honor Choir in San Antonio July 28th. Over 800 4th, 5th, and 6th graders auditioned for 150 spots in this prestigious choir.

Gifted and Talented Referrals for 2018-2019
The referral window for gifted and talented services is now open. Referral forms will be available online in the PowerSchool Parent Portal beginning August 13th. The window for referrals will close September 7, 2018.
 
Testing is scheduled for Saturday, September 15th and 22nd for students in grades 1-12. Please note: Kindergarten students will be tested at a later date.
 
Looking for More Information about G/T Services?
 
A brief information session will review the gifted and talented referral process and services offered in Lovejoy.
