Houston Level I SCMR Workshop
Fifty-eight healthcare professionals gathered in Houston, Texas on December 1st and 2nd for the SCMR Foundations of CMR Level I Workshop. The 2-day workshop was organized by Co-chairs Dr. Dipan Shah and Dr. Faisal Nabi, both from Houston Methodist Hospital. The workshop began with opening remarks by Dr. Shah, providing an overview of the workshop and the idea of going "Back to the Basics".
This JACC Scientific Expert Panel, lead by SCMR leaders Matthias Friedrich and Vanessa Ferreira, provides consensus recommendations for an update of the cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) diagnostic criteria for myocardial inflammation in patients with suspected acute or active myocardial inflammation (Lake Louise Criteria) that include options to use parametric mapping techniques. While each parameter may indicate myocardial inflammation, the authors propose that CMR provides strong evidence for myocardial inflammation, with increasing specificity, if the CMR scan demonstrates the combination of myocardial edema with other CMR markers of inflammatory myocardial injury. .
New Pericardial Mass in a Patient with a History of Recent Kawasaki Disease
A 6 year old male presented to the emergency department with a 2 week history of intermittent fever, fatigue, anorexia, and weight loss. His past medical history is significant for a history of refractory Kawasaki Disease diagnosed 1 year prior to presentation.
