SCMR member and current Clinical Practice Chair, Michael Elliott, MD appeared in Endocrine Today. Dr. Elliott, the Director of Cardiovascular MRI for Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina served as the lead author in a recent paper appearing in the American Diabetes Association journal,Diabetes Care titled "Prevalence and Prognosis of Unrecognized Myocardial Infarction in Asymptomatic Patients with Diabetes: A Two-Center Study With Up to 5 Years of Follow-up" . The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence and prognostic significance of unrecognized myocardial infarction (MI) by delayed-enhancement MRI (DE-MRI) in asymptomatic patients with diabetes.
American Heart Association Issues Scientific Statement on Management of MINOCAs
The American Heart Association has released a Scientific Statement that covers the diagnosis and aetiology, management, and prognosis in MINOCA. The statement recommends CMR because it can confirm AMI and exclude other diagnoses.
How Cardiac MRI Can Help Determine if Women Have Heart Disease
Researchers have determined that coronary artery wall thickness, as documented by CMR scans, is associated with heart disease in women. The authors shared their
findings in the debut issue of
Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging.
Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is often used to image patients with suspected cardiovascular disease, but CCTA is not recommended for regular use just to assess a patient's risk. As the authors noted, this is where MRI has potential to make a significant impact on patient care.
