The SCMR advocated on behalf of our members and for the increased utilization of CMR during the recent ACC Legislative Conference in Washington DC. SCMR was well represented by
CEO, Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci, Victor Ferrari, Anthon Fuisz, and Chris Kramer.
The three-day conference held Nov. 3-5, 2019 included in-depth advocacy training followed by a total of 316 meetings with lawmakers and their staff on Capitol Hill. Dr. Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci and SCMR Past-President Dr. Vic Ferrari joined the ACC Delegation at Capitol Hill meetings with key representatives of both the House and the Senate, including Senator Mitch McConnell, to discuss value-based reimbursement, reduce admin burden, accelerate implementation and clinical use of technology, including CMR, to improve cardiovascular health.

The SCMR works to ensure that CMR professionals are educated and well-qualified to safely perform and accurately interpret CMR studies for our patients. Professional competency is key to our mission and is fostered in every activity promoted by the Society.
To these points, the Society has developed a new position statement addressing the clinical practice of CMR and the different specialties represented within SCMR. This statement was approved by the Board of Trustees on July 27th, 2019.

The Heart MRI awareness campaign continues. Raymond Kwong was interview by Medtech Innovation news for his work on the
Stress Perfusion Imaging for Evaluation of Patients With Chest Pain (SPINS) trial. Raymond was quoted saying, "
The SPINS study is unique because it demonstrates the power of Heart MRI and is the first to use retrospective registry data from across the U.S. to confirm its prognostic value in a real-world setting." Another article promoting the value of Heart MRI's.

SCMR International Outreach Committee in Cuba
"Rapid CMR",
is an international research collaboration project which has grown due to
the contribution
of various institution
s
and professionals
(cardiologists, radiologists, technologists, physicists)
with the support of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance
(SCMR)
.
The main aim of this project
is
to
implement a rapid CMR scan for low-middle income countries, and to deliver it, embedding it within clinical care, training and mentoring so it is a self-sustaining and essential service.
SCMR members visited La Havana, Cuba as part of the continuous implementation of the project.

Distinct Subgroups in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in the NHLBI HCM Registry
Several SCMR members contributed to a new article published in the
Journal of the American College of Cardiology titled "
Distinct Subgroups in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in the NHLBI HCM Registry".
The HCMR (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Registry) is a National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute-funded, prospective registry of 2,755 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) recruited from 44 sites in 6 countries.
The authors sought to improve risk prediction in HCM by incorporating cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), genetic, and biomarker data.

An asymptomatic 10-year-old male visited his pediatrician for his regular attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) follow-up. A new systolic ejection murmur was heard. Chest x-ray showed an abnormal aortopulmonary window with enlargement of the left atrial shadow. ECG showed P-mitrale (M-shaped P-waves) in lead II and biphasic P-waves in lead V1, suggesting left atrial enlargement. These results prompted a referral to pediatric cardiology.
